Synopsis::

Hello there. Just discovered Media portal but couldn't get it to work. Shows splash screen then a frame with 3 menus in it which are "File, Options" and "Wizards". The only thing working in these menus seem to be the "Exit" command. Inside the frame, I can see my own background and icons. I have two PC's which have very different hardware configs (one is an AMD desktop with nVidia GFX5700, the other is an HP Laptop with mobility X600) but the result is the same on both. I searched but couldn't find anyone with a similar problem. What can I do?

    Hi,

    search for "transparent" could give you some hits.

    First of please try the standard skin BlueTwo.
    Second try lowering your video resolution.
    Could also be (afaik) a problem with a missing Font. (Have to dig for that one a bit....)

    This would be my first guess.

    Flip.

    Thanks for your help, FlipGer.

    I have already tried your first two suggestions. Before trying the third, found an "error.log" file. This is what it says:
    Code:
    26.10.2006 19:05:39 D3D: InitializeDeviceObjects - Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: skin\razor\media\newmailıcon.png
       at System.Drawing.Image.FromFile(String filename, Boolean useEmbeddedColorManagement)
       at System.Drawing.Image.FromFile(String filename)
       at MediaPortal.GUI.Library.TexturePacker.AddBitmap(PackedTextureNode root, Image rootImage, String file, Boolean& dontAdd)
       at MediaPortal.GUI.Library.TexturePacker.PackSkinGraphics(String skinName)
       at MediaPortal.GUI.Library.GUITextureManager.Init()
       at MediaPortalApp.InitializeDeviceObjects()
       at MediaPortal.D3DApp.InitializeEnvironment()

    I have solved the problem and want to report this (I don't know if it classifies as a bug or not):
    I had to change "Standarts and Formats" in control panel to "English (United States)" setting. If I change the skin, I have to repeat this before the first run. After the first run, I change it back to my own regional setting and run media portal again, it works. Also found some spelling errors in Turkish. My job is to translate movies between English and Turkish languages. I can be of assistance there. One last thing, is it possible to use a seeking bar in DivXs or MP3s (even DVDs maybe)? I found that you can jump 10 minutes further with mouse wheel but seek bar is somewhat different (and easier). Even if there is one, I couldn't find it. Anyway, thanks for this great program.

    Hi,
    This problem seems to be a localize one. If it's MediaPortal or Windows i dunno.
    The problem here it's the "newMailIcon.png" when in Turkish systems it search for "newmailıcon.png" the big "I" it's converted to "ı" & not "i" (see the dot above it's missing in the first one), will talk with the devs about this.

    Regards
    Roy

    That's a windows issue - with XP being a pre- UTF8 os I guess there's nothing we can do about :-/ Of course this particular file could be renamed but it's very likely that there will be other places then..
