i also have this problem, it has the window thats transparent with my background, and the "mediaportal" loading icon is up, freezes on "starting plugins..."

got it working.....i had to install the newest directX from microsoft
when i started it there was a error, but the mediaportal startup icon blocked me from seeing it, i could only click "ok"...when i changed my resolution, it let me see what it said on startup, and it was having a problem with directx....go figure
