TV - HTPC Connection:
I've been trying all afternoon to connect to my HTPC from my laptop to watch TV. After loads of trouble with Windows Firewall I managed to get the required ports open so stopped receiving the "xxx ports seem to be blocked" messages.
Now when I start media portal and select "TV" from the menu, I'm presented with the normal "TV" screen with options for TV Guide, Recordings, etc. but MP stops at this point. I can't select any of the menu options or get back to the main menu. The only way to get out of MP is to start Windows Task Manager and close it down from there. Because of this I can't generate any log files.
If I subsequently start MP again after closing it down using the Task Manager, MP starts but is completely transparent and all you can see is the windows desktop.

I know it's difficult without any log files but any ideas what's going wrong?

    Hi Knobby,

I connect to my Lounge-based HTPC via my laptop all the time. Shouldn't be difficult.

A few questions first..... sorry...

I take it MP runs OK on your main HTPC?

Can you 'ping' your HTPC from your laptop, so you know they can talk to each other?

Is your HTPC showing up on the network in your Laptops file explorer window?

Can you access any of the HTPC hard drives from your laptop?

Which version of MP are you using on your laptop?

Did you point your laptops' MP config>TV Client to the correct IP address for MP TVServer on your HTPC?

Are you using static or assigned IP addresses for both the HTPC and Laptop?
