you can use autohotkey to make a makro. Freewre.
http://autohotkey.com/

I use powerstrip to change the resolution with key combination.
Changed the keys for changing to my tv.
Used autohotkey to execute these and mediaportal.
And now I have configured my remote to execute the macro.

So now I can just drop my mouse and keybord, shut the monitor of and settle down with my remote
