I think we need an additional authoritative way to detect encryption status...

i don't think it's a mediaportal issue. it's broadcaster's fault, other softwares detect them as encrypted as well, it's more a matter of handling something that seems encrypted but isn't

The problem is some channels are only encrypted for certain parts of the day/week so I guess they have to be marked as scrambled in the stream.

We could analyse the stream on every tune but it's a bit of a catch 22 situation because MP uses the stored FTA flag before it tunes to decide which tuner to use!

This is part of the problem I think - providers don't label these channels consistently. In Bracco's case though, some of his providers appear to be just blatantly ignoring DVB guidelines, whether they're 24 hour encrypted or not.

    Exactly. :(
There is an encrypted flag in the EIT so maybe that could be used in some cases. My opinion is that the best we can do is create a third category for "sometimes encrypted" and when a user tunes to one of those channels then we use a tuner with decryption capability if possible, otherwise use what is available.

PS: Bracco, do you have Transedit or DVBViewer? I was using Transedit to analyse the stream dump you provided and it seemed to be correct. I guess it is analysing encryption at the PID level because it could tell when one of the channels had encrypted audio but the video was FTA.

no i don't but will download and try

i tried quickly with transedit and it seems to correctly distinguish between real and "fake" encrypted channels. also, it finds as FTA some channels that are usually encrypted but not atm
