I've been using a FX5200 for half a year now and am very satisfied. But I would recommend a fanless card. Won't be more expensive.

I Bought a Asus V9520 MAgic FX5200 fanless and very great tv-out and no problem to choose 720X576 50Hz resolution. Very cheap only about 50 euro.

How do you select 50Hz? I use 61.something drivers as posted in another thread here, and I can only choose 60Hz.

I have this card as well (a fanless version). My only problem at the moment is I can't get VMR9 working. I'm not sure if it's to do with the graphics card, or something else. Does anyone else use VMR9 with the FX5200, and if so what codecs do you use ?

    Hi,

I have the same card, but can only choose 60Hz. Do you have a monitor at the VGA out and a TV at the TV out? Then I think I need a dummy connector for the VGA output fit with 75 ohm resistors.

    Hi,

What's the issue about the 50 or 60 Hz

I'm using the ASUS 9520 FX5200 at 720x576 (or somewhat like that) and 60 Hz (can not set it to 50Hz) and it woks fine. Even with VMR9 (NVidia 61.somewhat drivers and windvd 6)

Can someone explain what I'm missing about 50Hz??

The only thing I can't get rid of is a stutter every 30 seconds in image not in sound (mayby the PIV 1.5GHz and 384Mb PC133 makes it stutter??). Suggestions about this are welcome to

    thnx
    Paddy

PAL (Europe) works at 50 Hz, NTSC (USA) works at 60Hz.

Many PAL TV's can display NTSC... but you generally get a better picture quality using PAL (the resolution is much better).

I think this is why HDTV is so much bigger in the States. We already have a pretty good picture on our PAL broadcasts and TV's (an extra 20% of pixels)... and when you see an NTSC movie on a big TV, the picture quality is terrible... hence the need to go HD.

I'm using the latest 66.93 drivers and the nVidia codec and can't get VMR9 to work. I'll try the windvd 6 codecs and see if that helps.
