Choppy video when OSD is displayed (2 Viewers)

Hi,

I've installed MP 1.2.1 this weekend and managed to get it working all right for SD and HD channels, and MKVs.
I'm using the FDDShow video decoder and the AC3filter for audio. I'm using 2 Floppy DTVs and EVR renderer.

While watching TV, recordings and MKV it is all running fluently without any stutter or judder whatsoever, but as soon as the OSD is displayed ('pressing Y-key') or when the TV signal is showed in a thumbnail on a GUI, the video is displayed very very choppy.

The same happens when switching channels, the OSD is displayed for a few seconds, video is stuttering, and after about 5 seconds all is fine.

Is this 'normal' behaviour for MP? Anything I could do to improve this?

Update:

I configured Mediaportal client to use the Microsoft DTV codecs for both audio and video now and this issue is far less prominently visible.

Paul would really need system specs to fully identify issue.

It can be easier to add this in your usercp at top of forum posts, then it needs to be enabled to view in the profile setting also there.

This has 2 advantages, people do not ask you again for this and if you fill in a bug report it automatically submits these details for you

Something you can try, get rid of any installed codecs, then run ccleaner registry checker and filmerit (unlock padlock, red button fix), repair any errors shown

Now from your desktop run the MPextensions installer, do a update and find the LAV filters, install them, now go to start menu\Lav filters, open video config and select Cuvid for hardware acceleration (190 onwards nvidia drivers), thats all necessary there, if outputting audio to a amplifier, then spdif needs to be enabled under the LAV audio config.

Inside MP config\filters and renderers, you can select LAV for TV\Video\audio playback, keep M$ codec for DVD video only.

Now see if you still get that OSD problem, our specs are pretty similar, the only thing that did concern me was the low wattage of your power supply, personally a 400watt psu would be more appropriate for the 8600gt, i had a 7900gs previously and that needed a 500watt, remember you are powering a lot of components, not just a basic pc, and that could give you glitches in performance, especially if 3 years old.

Hi,

I have rebuild my mediacenter PC and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64 bit, what I planned to do anyway.
Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. I have perfect video playback, full HD, for TV, recordings, Blurays and MKVs, but the moment I switch to the GUI, it is stuttering and menu's are non responsive.

I checked the CPU, only 20%, also network is fine.
I installed mediaportal on both my laptop and high end game PC, on both those machines, the problem does not occur, with the same codecs selected.

Looks like mediaportal/codecs have a problem with the Microsoft Video Decoder in combination with my 'old' GeForce 8600GT.
The problem does not occur when I watch MKVs, for which I selected the LAV Video Decoder.
Tried the LAV Video decoder for TV, but it lags, and has very low fps.

I ordered a graphics card for another PC, newer Nvidia GeForce 210 that I I'm going to try next.

I fixed this issue by replacing my old nvidia 8600 GT with a newer GTX430 (also the GTX570 works, but way out of league for a HTPC).

Looks like the old card cannot cope with the GUI and H.264 content in mixed mode very well.
