It could be interesting to possibly using SDK make and plugin for MP to take the same functionality.

I use AirpleSERVER to send audio from IPAD Spotify to the HTPC in the MP background, but do not use video, because it then makes tricky to switch back focus to MP. But such solution from Google could be another great way.

And it becomes questioning about UPNP - we could use skip some components by using device as remote and player as one device.
As for example - aMPdroid could just be a small and convenient player!!!

waituntil someone develops a video mirror to steam program, soyou can mirror a display then it would be useful adjunct to your htpc.

have you seen the demo of Chromecast? It is very different approach. It even can use MP webportal to stream view to TV etc.

If MP server stream could be initiated and forwarded to Chromecast dongle, then no tv client should be used

I think this is something that can be quite easily implemented in aMPdroid and MPExtended. Haven't looked at the API though.

Can Chromecast use remote control inputs from the TV via CEC or is it purely operational via a tablet or phone? I have a full blown HTPC client in the lounge, but for other rooms this could be awesome IF I could control if via the TV remote.

Shame, I've been looking forward to a decent alternative to the Apple TV that can use a remote, be low-powered and can run aMPdroid... I might look in to this should it work with MP correctly though.

why not just use an android stick, cost is probably not too far off and they are getting cheaper and more powerful every couple of months.
