But of course CoreAVC doesn't use this - so not too relevant - although guess its being sued for de-interlacing. Watched a few hrs of HD and non HD TV in the UK, over DVB-T and DVB-S and so far all have been perfect with the above setup. Very happy that I finally got it all working.

I'm also in the UK and have seen the same problem with BBC HD channels (via DVB-S, no idea if the DVB-T2 ones have the same problems). For me the Microsoft Windows 7 codec works perfectly with no stutters and seems to use hardware decode (less then 10% cpu usage) on my ATI 5450 card...

    (Probably a silly question, but...)
Does that Microsoft codec only work on Win7 or can it be used on other OSes (specifically XP)? I don't know if people are calling it "the Windows 7 codec" because it comes with Win7 or because it only works on Win7 (or both!)

At the moment I'm getting best HD results with the ArcSoft codec, but it stutters a bit with vertical scrolling (like credits) so I'd be interested to try the MS one. I'll also give CoreAVC a go while I'm fiddling (thanks for the tip Revs).

Rob, microsoft decoders work only under Win7/2008.
Thanks - I thought that was probably the case.

EDIT: Quick update: CoreAVC 2 with ffdshow for audio works really well on my system. Thanks revs :) It seems to suffer from a bit of pixellation for the first few seconds of playback (almost looks like it's bits of the previous buffer overlayed), but once it settles down it's really nice and smooth. Still using PDVD for SD.
