Thank you for the advice. Will do as you suggest.
Restart the tvserver was after i had grabbed the first logs so wouldn't have shown up their.
Just a question:
If this is unfixable should a bug be reported? Is a problem with Mediaportal? or one with Mysql, an oldish version is used with Mediaportal could it have been fixed in a later version.
As I say just questions so that things might be improved with what has happened in my case.
Again thanks for your help

The bug is in external library which is not part of MediaPortal (we don't have source code which can be analysed and possibly fixed).

I see the error, but I think that this error is not fixable.
Just out of interest: what do you see?
E.g. in TV Server log file:
    Code:
2012-07-11 08:59:32.156250 [(28)]: Tvservice stopped due to an unhandled app domain exception System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
      at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand.TimeoutExpired(Object commandObject)
      at System.Threading._TimerCallback.TimerCallback_Context(Object state)
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state)
      at System.Threading._TimerCallback.PerformTimerCallback(Object state)
I think that we don't have sources of MySQL.Data library.

I can absolutely copy the behaviour: my system wakes up for grabbing epg every day at 4 p.m. - sometimes it stands there with "lost connection to TV Service" when I come home. I checked the logs and I found the exactly same error:

    Code:
2012-07-31 15:59:07.123000 [(16)]: Tvservice stopped due to an unhandled app domain exception System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
      at MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand.TimeoutExpired(Object commandObject)
      at System.Threading._TimerCallback.TimerCallback_Context(Object state)
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state)
      at System.Threading._TimerCallback.PerformTimerCallback(Object state)

Restarting MP (because it starts the stopped TV Service) solves the problem.

    Hi, Emetic_4ever.
I can also confirm that since changing to MSsq,l as previously suggested, I have had no further occurrences of the problem.
I thought that it was just me but am relieved that others too have experienced it. My hope is that the Mediaportal developers have notified the Mysql developers of this, as we cant be the only 2 having the problem. I did wonder if it might have been sorted in a later version of Mysql as we use an oldish version? but what do I know I am only a woodturner!!

I haven't read the entire thread, but if you need to restart tv service automatically after wake / resume, then you can do so using power scheduler, there is a special tick box in the settings for the plugin within the tv config. Has worked great for me previously.

Thanks for that, but, if you had read the whole thread you would have seen that it was a problem within mysql. Everything else had been tried by myself prior to contacting help, ticking unticking every combination. Changing to MSsql has resolved these problems, touch wood no missed recordings , fail to start or bad shutdown..
