Connection to tv service lost after reboot (1 Viewer)

Hi

I have been using MediaPortal 1.2.3.0 for years and it has been working well. However, today I receive the message "Connection to TV service lost" after starting the program even after I reboot the computer. I have had the message before but a reboot fixed it. Today, I did have issues with the internet connecting and plugged and rebooted the modem but I would not expect this to effected it. I do have a Hauppauge duel tuner card connected to the computer. I had a look in the log folder and noticed a file named "error" saved today and I pasted the content below. There were other log files so I am not sure if you want something else.

Do you know what is likely to cause the problem and what I could try. Should I try to reinstall the program or should I try to connect USB TV tuner to see if I can connect to that.

At about the same time that I noticed this, I could not access my other computers through the computer network. This was after I had some problems with connecting the phone line and modem as I lost connection to the internet and my telephones. I moved the modem to another room and took a network cable out of one of the other computers to connect the modem to the hub. I rebooted the computers and the hub. The internet and phone lines are working well now but the network and MediaPortal are not.

wow that's a long post... next time better attach the log as a file
But judging by the error, the mysql database doesn't seem to be started.
Can you verify the mysql server is running?
I know there were some issues with services depending on eachother (f.e. tvservice depending on mysl) that that dependency didn't get correctly added.
In that case windows won't wait with starting tvservice until mysql is fully started.

If mysql is not running, then make sure tvservice is stopped, then start the mysql service, and after that start tvservice.
If that doesn't work, another possibility is that the database somehow got corrupted, but that is a harder one to tackle

Thanks for the info. I tried to attach the file but could not find where to do it. I am not sure how to verify the mysql server is running. Would it be best to uninstall the software completely and reinstall? I tried that before when I could not get it to work. Sometimes it makes it work. However, I have failed to get it to work on some other computers after uninstalling and then reinstalling so perhaps some of the parts were not properly uninstalled despite me doing the complete uninstall. Is there a program that can do a clean uninstall?

no uninstalling is not (yet) needed.
You can check in the services tab of the taskmanager if the status of mysql is "running"

Maybe the IP address of your computer changed? This cause similar problems.

I am not sure where to check the PC IP address an how to change it.

What I did was uninstall MediaPortal and reinstall. After closing it, I noticed TVService and MySql were running in Windows task manager. I tried to click "stop service" for these but a message said the "operation could not be completed" and access was denied.

When reinstalling a message came up saying "unable to connect to tv server host". Then another one saying:

"There is a problem with the hostname specified in the "TV/Radio? section. It will not be saved."

Do you have any suggestions on how to make it work. I am not sure if I should uninstall TVService and MySql and then reinstall them.

safest bet is indeed uninstall (and make sure all data is removed, also for mysql)
You can check after uninstalling both if there are any mediaportal/mysql related folders in the programdata folder, and remove those if present)

After I uninstall MediaPortal and MediaPortal TV server / client, would I have to uninstall MySql and if not, how would I remove the data from it? Bear in mind there is also Windows Media Center installed on my computer as it is part of Windows 7. I tuned it in after I could not use MediaPortal a couple of days ago and I can see the TV programs on it. However, I prefer MediaPortal. I hope it there wont be a conflict between MediaPortal and Windows Media Center. Also, I wonder if I should uninstall TVService which appears in Windows Task Manager. I am not sure if it is part of MediaPortal or could it be to do with Window Media Center?

tvservice is from mediaportal, but I don't know if WMC uses mysql or not...
so if wmc doesn't use it, its safe to uninstall mediaportal (this should uninstall tvservice too, but do double check that), uninstall mysql, and remove the mediaportal and mysql related folders from your programfiles and programdata.
That should get you a clean machine as far as mediaportal is concerned.
After that, you can install mediaportal (including tv stuff) again and hopefully then it will be good again.
Mind you, removing mysql and mediaportal data also removes any customizations you've done so you have to do that again...
