I'm using SAF (IE Cyberlink MPEG decoder and FFDshow) which loads of other people are using, so I'm sure if the decoders were the problem we'd know about it.

Oh well, looks like I'm stuffed then :(

Remember that DXVA works differently on different HW. Badly encoded (corrupted stream) can cause crashes on some HW.

Does this also happen with the MPC gabest decoder, that totally eliminates any dxva fault.

Also are you using driver 4.3.27240 for T500, even if I unplug the aerial with MP running, there is no crash for me, this of course may be because of Win7 + EVR, unfortunately no XP installation to test against.

I am indeed using the 4.3.27240 driver, but yes on XP/VMR9.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try using the MPC decoder and see if that helps.

Actually, the MPC decoder isn't currently showing as an option in MP config. Perhaps SAF5 removes/blocks it. I tried downloading the standalone decoders from sourceforge and regsvr32 on the MPCVideoDec.ax but it still doesn't show as an option in MP config under MPEG-2 decoder, only H.264. Can you advise what I need to do?

C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal the MPC Video\audio codecs are there, cannot see why SAF blocks, all I know is the Vista codec pack does not.

If you run filmerit, do the MPC codecs show up in there and are there any errors ;)

Hmm, they don't seem to be there.

I tried copying MPCVideoDec.ax from system32 (where I'd put it and registered it) to the MP folder and registering it again but it still doesn't show as an option in MP Config under MPEG-2 decoders.

    Filmerit shows 4 errors:
    MediaPortal Stream Analyzer
    DMO Acoustic Echo Canceller
    WDM Streaming Data Transforms
    WDM Streaming Mixer Devices

Hope you have a ghost image of your system, because with those, I would start again, thats not because I know for a certainty what effect each missing file would have, its just that any missing M$ filter is bad news, let alone the MP one.

Just my point of view, and with the inability to install the MPC codec, believe you have a foobar'd system, just not what you want to hear, sorry.

According to hoborg, the MPC decoder doesn't do MPEG-2, so it's quite normal that it doesn't show up as an option in MP under MPEG-2 Video Decoder.

What are your thoughts on that?

MPCVideoDec.ax is capable of decoding VC-1/H.264 video types. For MPEG-2 you will need to register the Mpeg2DecFilter.ax
