I posted about a year ago regarding the problem I was having with a crash on channel change, which seemed to be related to a bug with CoreAVC and TsReader. I have lived with the problem ever since, but this week I upgraded to Windows 7, and I thought with the built in h.264 codec I would finally be able to change channels without MP crashing.
However, unfortunately I still have problems. With a clean install of Win 7, and a clean install of MediaPortal 1.1.0 final, I can watch TV and change channels without trouble. YAY! But the TV is very jerky and juddery on both TV2 and TV3, which makes them basically unwatchable. CPU spikes from 20-30% up to 50%, which led me to wonder if hardware DXVA is being used.
So I installed CoreAVC 2.0 and turned on DXVA and lo, the picture on all channels is great, but MP crashes when I change channel. Sob.
So I thought, maybe one of the other codecs would help, and have so far tried ffdshow and DivX h.264 (reverting to clean build before installing each one). So far my testing seems to show that when DXVA is turned on, I get the channel change problem whichever codec I am using. When DXVA is turned off I get a variety of other problems, mostly the juddery TV but occasionally MP hangs, but the channel change works fine!
Any suggestions as to what to try next? Someone must be out there in NZ able to change channels and have non-juddery TV!
