Thanks DJBlu, this will save a lot of work on demuxing/muxing the files, unfortunately is not enough to solve my issue... I've already solved the 20FPS bug with the old "manual" method but for media portal wasn't enough.
Doing some extra testing I actually discovered that my issue is related to VMR9 (only option in MP it seems), while playing the 720p files through MPC, zoomplayer (with VMR7) or graphedt, gives me no problem.
To summarize:
VRM9: hardware acceleration is working (CPU near 0%), got shuttering on panning scenes
VRM7: hardware acceleration is working (CPU near 0%), playing is perfect

I'm using a 2400XT PCIE with catalyst 7.12, updated powerDVD Ultra, Windows XP sp2 and I've already applied arfster reg tweaks.

Any idea?

    I have the same problem:

    - Mediaportal with HA H264 files stutters and artifacts
    - Mediaportal with a postprocessing filter (vobsub) enabled (this disables HA) everything perfect but (obviously) higher CPU load
    - MPC-HC with HA H264 VMR9 Renderless everything perfect

Tried to disable VMR9 exclusive mode with no result at all. Tried to use ffdshow (with no postprocessing options) raw filter as postprocessing but obviously this disables HA and everything works fine.

I'm using latest MP SVN with TVserver.

    Same problem here as well
It´s still in MP. It´s been there now for over half a year now

And I don´t have any idea what i have to do, and how, to make this work (in my case for 1080p h264) with PDVD8 codec. I see you guys talking about directvobsub and vsfilter, postprocessing and haalisplitter.
I have no idea what this is, does and what i need to change and how i get there...

Could somebody give me a hand here...:sorry:

I have to use ffdshow raw as the postproccessor for the powerdvd ultra codecs to work with mkv files. did you try that?
Haven't tried this yet, I'll give it a shot this evening.

From what I saw the problem is only with MKV's containing embedded subtitles... They fail to render, except when using ffdshow...
Actually this is no more an issue, it has been resolved in the other thread forcing the Haali Media Splitter to load the VSFilter.dll, using the appropriate filter option (under Compatibility, set "Autoload VSFilter" to "yes").
Unfortunately rendering the subtitles through Direct Vob Sub will disable any kind of hardware acceleration, so this is hardly a point trying to get the Cyberlink codec working correctly.

An issue with no good solution is still an issue ;) And a very persistant one i might add, it´s been around for more than half a year now.
But a more basic question. What do I have to do to play the h264 1080p with PDVD8, with or without hwacc...setting autoload filter to yes or no doesn´t help...
