Anyone have a solution for keeping the database up to date. I was on vacation for a bit and when I started MP on on my HTPC, it started to do an update of the data in the database. Well its over an hour now and still going. If there was a way of keeping it up to date on the downstream server this wouldn't have happened. Now I am stuck waiting till its updated before I get all my shows back. I shouldn't be whining, its a great plugin. My favorite actually. But if people start heading down the path of network based databases and sharing them. Then a service or app that would keep your standalone databases up to date would be handy..my thoughts for what their worth.
gees I am into hour number 3...wow this is taking a while. mind you I have a lot of shows...doh
I have just successfully moved my database to my server and changed all my clients to point to it there. First thing I thought would then be a problem was the thumbs, as the database would still try and find them locally. So I've also moved my thumbs directory to my server as well and now all clients pick up their database and thumbs from the server and there's no performance hit at all as far as I can see. Now I can go to a client and browse my videos and pick up the info from imdb etc. and then go to another client and it now knows about it. I'm so glad I looked at this thread. This was really easy to do as well.
There's a setting for the thumbs directory as well in the same place as the setting for the database. It's in MediaPortalDirs.xml which is located in the root of the MP directory.
My initial thoughts were on having my whole installation on a networked drive but that doesn't seem possible at the moment. With this method I can at least have 1 database for all my music and videos etc. so they are available from any client.
Moved my databases to a server and moved the thumbs as well. Pointed everything to the server and it works. But the performance sucks. BIG TIME. Whats weird is I have to HTPC configed the sameway, one is fine the other sucks. I can't shake the feeling I have a network issue on this one pc but damned if I can figure it out. But hey, the sharing does work.
