Here is another try.

The version in post 48 also gives an access violation.

And two more to test...

v2 in post 50 also gives an access violation.

v3 in post 50 successfully registers.

But is the command prompt actually launched as administrator?

The results are the same when running in a command prompt launched with my MP user account which is as a member of the local administrators group, and in a command prompt actually launched as administrator.

AW: deploy tool crashes on mpaudioswitcher.ax

    V2 doesn't work
    V3 works.

Yeah, that isn't a good long term solution...

Indeed. Trouble is it was the last one before updating to VS2010.

    Not good.

Is it correct to say that everyone having this problem is running Windows XP? Presumably, however, this problem does not affect everyone running Windows XP, so do we have any clear idea why these people are affected?

Of course, since they cannot actually install MediaPortal, can we be sure that if they did install it, with the older version of the binary, that MediaPortal would actually work, or could there be more issues relating to VS2010 - I would say we need a test installer built with this mpaudioswitcher.ax in order to check before we even consider committing the older one to SVN.

What are the implications of this for everyone else? Do we currently require the VS2008 runtime to be installed, and would using the older version required this?

I installed beta fine on XP.

On thing that does seem odd though is that some filters are three times the size of others....

    Eh?

Is this unusual? Are all filters (the files) expected to be the same size? Are they different sizes on Vista/Windows7 (I can check if you need me to)?

Yes, all MpAudioSwitcher.ax files are expected to be the same size.

I'm also on XP, but I just upgrade my DLLs, EXEs etc. when I feel that things are pretty stable (so I didn't use the installer to get 1.2.0b). I'll try and unregister and reregister the latest one when I get home. I don't think I actually use it though - what is it for?

MPaudioswitcher was developed to handle dual mono sound tracks. Some channels are broadcast with Danish in left channel and English in right channel. I think it might also have other uses now?

Iirc, the filter was developed by gemx. gibman made the fully automatic detection of channels, and I fixed a bug so it actually worked :)
