HELP, please! I am trying to fix that problem since couple of weeks, did many reinstalls and am stuck now. Cannot solve this issue. Close to giving up..!!
(Though I was working for MP since 1 1/2year now and overcome all issues I had).

Issue:
When watching videos (tried only recorded ones) the video initially plays fine. But after a variable time - e.g. 10..15minutes - the picture freezes. Audio continues. The freezing occurs suddenly, sometimes there are some stutters 1 sec before.

Sometimes the video can be restarted by skipping 15sec forward and/or backwards.
At all times stopping the video and restarting makes the video play again from the previous position.

Interesting are the following fact:
The video does not freeze at the same point of time, it happens randomly and cannot be reproduced.

I did not install any other codec or player. I remember that in my previous install (where I had nero co-installed), that Nero played all the files fine and did not freeze after 10min or so..

I checked with graphedit and it told me that (as expected) only Nvidias codecs are used. (Nevertheless, in previous installs I checked with other codecs and same problem).

As MP is WMP based, could the problem lie in there?

I had similar issues after clean istall of Windows XP SP2, looks like at least for me the cause for this was an old version of quartz.dll. Check if you have installed KB919071 update.

If that doesnt help please provide full logs of TVE3 and MP when this issue happens.

The link is only for the english version of XP (mine is german).

In a different thread I read about replacing Quartz.dll against an older one (Dx9.0b) in that case, I tried that also. Did not help anything.

BTW: I did 4 new installs this weekend and it seems that I do have an additional problem:

After 3 or 4 reboots(or it is a certain driver install causing this)... The video stays BLACK. There is only sound.
I thought it was related to the Realtek HD audio driver, because it happened when I installed that one.. But as the last attemp worked out, I thought there must not be something wrong with it..

But now.. three reboot later my whole video is gone...

:-(

What am I doing wrong?
My hardware is not that bad.
And I am using MCE 2002 with SP2 installed (which actually make it a MCE2005)

I am out of ideas now..

What would you guys recommend me to do?

So I am not sure whether logs will help, as I am experiencing these problems also in WMP.

I played around with graphedit. Build different graphs (means without VMR9 renderer), all resulted in a black video...

I restored the system back to yesterday, the point I had the realtek driver just installed..
Now the videos played (but I did not test for long enough to see whether it will freeze or not).

I went back to my latest system state.. There the videos now are black again..
What might be of interest: The audio on windows start (jingle) is distorted.. Though the actuall movie sound is ok.

I think it must be related to a global system issue. It seems VMR9 is not working and/or no video rendering is working at all.
I tried DVIX (codec is installed) and they again gave a black video.

I guess I am fighting two problems at the same time (maybe they are somehow related):

1. After clean installation and several reboots, all videos only give black video.. (I do have the realtek HD audio driver under suspect)

2. When it is working (basically after a clean install), after 10..20 minutes the video freezes and sound continues. I can kick the video off again sometimes(!) by (sometimes skipping forward/backward).. always(!) by stopping restarting.

Interestingly it freezes again after a while and the time periods get smaller.. As if its getting more and more serious. In the end the video just runs for couple of minutes.

Might there be a buffer overrun or so..

I am really frustrated and already spend 5 full(!) days working on that issue, I might concider going out and buying me a DVD harddisk reciever.. :-(

If you have any of my hardware or software under supect, please let me know. I am willing to change almost everything!!!

OK JCEE, this is what I would do.

1 A clean Windows SP2 install just plain XP no MCE. install all patches and latest DX 9.0c

2 Install the latest WHQ drivers for all your hardware ( NOT THE LATEST!, WHQ)

3 Download Mediaplayer Classic http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/mplayerc.exe

4 Download FFDshow http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow-tryout/ffdshow_beta2a_20070322_clsid.exe

5 Download SubVOB and Haali player and install http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/guide.php

6 download Mainboard monitor to check voltage and temp of hardware during play and during heavy load http://files3.majorgeeks.com/files/9bab7341f4429f78ade492da0318aa42/diagnostics/mbm5370.exe

1: DL Prime http://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v2414.exe

RUn Prime and let it run for a long while (a day continuously) to seen if CPU, POWERSUPPLY or TEMPERATURE are out of range.

if succesfull the CPU and other stuff is fine

2: use MediaPLayer classic and go to options, select NULL rendering and play video files,

3: use MediaPLayer classic and go to options, select OVERLAY rendering and play video files

4: use MediaPLayer classic and go to options, select VMR7 rendering and play video files,

4: use MediaPLayer classic and go to options, select VMR9 rendering and play video files,
