Still have to test the MPA/MPV codecs, but here my results so far.
- Installed clean XP Pro SP2
- Installed all post SP2 patches and updates up to Feb 2007
- Installed latest Chipset driver (Nforce)
- Installed various version of Nvidia drivers (91.x, 81.x,85.x)
It turned out that no matter what I was doing any newer Nvidia gfx driver did not run hardware accelerated, I had to turn the slider to the left in control panel => display => troubleshooting, actually disabling the hardware acceleration.
I read at several forums that people had the same problem when upgrading to newer grafix cards. There were roumors that the newer cards might communicate to the board /chipset with newer instructions that the board might not understand.
Anyway, no one had a real solution, going back to release 85.x of Nvidias display drivers fixed the problem, though I might wonder whether the system is now running optimal?!
To recall: No video played at all, eveb MPC did not show a video, even when going to the standard renderer or Overlay or VMR7, it really seems that there is a windows directX problem..
If anyone has more information on that, please let me know.
Upgrading to a different gfx card might help me.. But I am not willing to spend money now.
Oh boy, 4 full days troubleshooting just to get the basics going... I wonder whether Microsoft OS and the PC hardware can be a reliable platform for a PVR?!?!??
