Does this point to a dead DVB-T tuner? (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

I need a bit of help trying to discover if my DVB-T tuning part of my AIW is dead. It has been working great pre RC1but I decided to update to RC1 latest SVN. I started getting stability issues if TV was on, VPU recover would kick in eventually. The tv would freeze yet sound was still playing.

I tried the ati media centre app and noticed that DVB-T wasnt getting picked up. Analog works fine however as does the radio. I then reinstalled XP and preceeded to install MP RC1+SVN, database connected fine etc. I ran the DVB-T channel scan and found that despite the tuner locking on to the signal ( signal strength and quality all above 70%) the channel scan would display No signal. It would run through the 7 channels and report no dvb radio or tv channels found.

I've attatched the 2 logs found in the log folder to see if anyone can have a look and maybe see if it really is the tuner that has died.

Uninstall TVServer, remove drivers\software for TVcard, make sure you have the dvbfix installed

Reboot, install the TVCards own software, and scan with that, if it does not work with that, chances are the card has a fault on it, try removing from its pci connector and refitting, sometimes just not seated correctly.

Yeah I have tried all the above and its looking fairly likely that the dvb-t part of my aiw has fried.

Nope.

CATS 8.6 are at fault causing some serious problems with older generation ATI/AMD cards in XP/VISTA.

All my 9xxx, X800,series cards inc AIW's have the same problems with CAT 8.6. VPU recover and hardware acceleraion of VIDEO.

Revert to CAT 8.5 and test again, you may need to do a system restore or use a good drive cleaner.

Historicaly driver support gets less at about three generations.

With the age of these cards it can be prudent to stay with (or expect to revert to) a known good older driver.

It can be worth testing newer drivers but always be prepared for oddities like this .

You may be suspiscious and think they ATI/AMD/NV do this on purpose to incite the belief in the user that their card is at fault and they need to upgrade and/or replace.

Agree with all you say here, anyhoo bit of an update.

I did a full reinstall of XP, installed the Ati media centre app and drivers off the cd and noticed the DVB-T was working. I installed Mediaportal RC1 no SVNs and it picked the channels up straight away. I was using cats 8.6 but with the AVstream T200 driver at 7.12 which I had always used, so it does seem your right regarding the 8.6 issues. First time I have installed the ATI MMC and I'm quite impressed with it. It won't be taking over MP as I like to stream TV to my gaming machine.

I even picked up the analog channels in mediaportal client tv setup (which it never has done before), but the tv server doesn't find them.

Is there away to override the TVServer tv card setup so I could maybe get the analog radio to work ?
