DTS Audio! Ahhhhhhh! (2 Viewers)

My MKV files with DTS audio exhibits motion stutters or improper decoding that stutters. I have been going nuts trying to figure out what to do. What is the best configuration? I can't seem to put together anything that works.

I am using ac3 filter and reclock now. I was just dependent on SAF but when I finally connected my htpc to my receiver through both hdmi and optical I have had this nagging problem.

I've been away some years from the video decoder/encoder stuff. I used to be an expert on SVCD, VCD because the "no money to get a DVD burner" syndrom ... Hmm. a couple of years ago .

This Matroska stuff MKV was new to me and when I searched about ripping a Bluray I read somewhere that the MKV format container doesn't accept DTS audio, even if you managed to mux it to a MKV file. I havent tried myself yet. It looks like ripbot264 seems to manage it ?

If anyone else can show a working sollution I would be interrested as well.

I have successfully muxed .dts audio into an .mkv container without any problems, and I also know many others have too!

Are these your own rips you're having difficulty with? Are they playing direct with Speakers/Headphones OK or is it just through the receiver you are experiencing this problem?

Radioman - MKVtoolnix - google, download, install and use MKVmerge, (eac3to to extract the DTS core from DTS-HD, TrueHD. Use with SurcodeDTS for LPCM>DTS)

I have the same issues with other decoders, and the only audio decoder that works for me is AC3Filter. Here are a few things to try:
- Use GraphEdit and make 100% sure that AC3Filter is in fact being used as your audio decoder.
- Make sure AC3Filter is correctly configured to do complete SPDIF pass-through of all audio.
- Set your audio renderer specifically as your HDMI device. Try to avoid using "Default ..." renderer choices. Really choose the HDMI DirectSound renderer only.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

Good news, problem resolved. I received my new blu ray player in the mail today and installed it with power dvd. I decided to upgrade to version 9 and the option to use power dvd 9 as a decoder for audio appeared in mediaportal. So I tried it out and everything works perfectly!

I am not sure if this is the most ideal codec to use but so far so good.

I was having the same problem as other people have posted in various other threads with DTS and MKV...choppy audio and weird movements in playback. I am glad to say that these symptoms appear to be fixed for me.

I will eventually need to become more knowledgeable with my codecs and will follow your instructions. I had always used ac3 filter and never ran into problems until this with mkv's and dts. I guess I need to just learn more about audio decoding in general.

Thanks. I have now used the tools and my MKV movie "Wanted" got lagging sound and the video is garbled, about every 15 seconds. I used AC3 filter and FFDshow for video at playback. I also tried PDVD 7 for video (bundled together with my LG Bluray drive) but no success.

Interresting result. I will try to use PDVD for both video and audio playback next trials this evening.

I assumed you had encoded the video using RipBot, MKVtoolnix is THE tool for .mkv. So I don't know what is wrong.

What I do briefly is use AnyDVDHD to rip the blu-ray, tsmuxer to extract the audio, eac3to to encode the audio, MeGUI (instead of ripbot) to encode the video and MKVmerge to mux the two streams together. It works perfect every time!

Afterdawn and Doom9 forums are the place to go for help with HD encoding, there are detailed guides if that helps.

CoreAVC is pretty good, but have you used graphedit to see whether or not the PDVD7 codecs are being utilised?

My MKV was muxed with the raw videofile ripped from the Bluray with anydvd. (About 16GB if I recall correct.)

My first trial with ripbot went bad because somone in the family turned the computer off when it was some hour into the second encoding pass...

Maybe my CPU is taxed to much and can't keep up? It's between 60 - 85% CPU use when using OSD and FFDshow. I have to test a lot more and I will comeback here when I have succeded. I will succed in the end, even though it may take a while. Grumpy old man you know.

Try it with MPC-HC using PDVD7 you should be able to set it up to use hardware aceleration and really see the difference in CPU load.

Try MeGUI, it's not as straightforward but it's alot better than RipBot as you have a lot more control over various settings. The basic profiles included are adequate to get you started, and eventually you can tweak settings to suit. It's much better to have an 8gb .mkv file than a 25gb blu-ray on your harddrive.
