    Hi all,

My HTPC used to have Vista Ultimate with Haali splitter and ffdshow installed. Everything would work (Windows Mediaplayer, powerdvd, MediaPortal) and would output DD/DTS over HDMI to my Onkyo amp (the DD/DTS lamps would light).

I've recently rebuilt it with Windows 7 Ultimate. I installed Haali splitter and ffdshow but I had a problem with MKVs (nothing would play them) so had to install MPC and MPC codec as per the MP install instructions. Now MediaPortal will play all files but only outputs PCM over the HDMI.

Windows MediaPlayer locks when playing MKVs so can't test with this. MPC works fine but also outputs only PCM.

I've installed the Realtek drivers (and Catalyst 10.4) and in the properties of the HDMI device it display DD and DTS as supported formats.

Anybody got any idea how to get DD and DTS working instead of PCM?

Oh yeah, in PowerDVD 8 I can change the options to passthru DD/AC3 over HDMI but whenever I play a file it reverts to PCM.

    Cheers.

    Bob.

EDIT : Forgot to say. MediaPortal set-up to use MPC codec. If I use anything else (ffdshow or PowerDVD) then the movies don't play.

AW: DTS/DD over HDMI (Win 7)

    Hi.
The problem is, the licence of Multi-Channel-Out on the HDMI is not included in the driver. In Power-DVD this Licence is included. The only solution is to use the optical out for DTS DD and so on.

So this has changed for Windows 7?

PowerDVD doesn't output DTS/DD either, if I select it then play a file it reverts back to PCM.

If this really is the case I'm going back to Vista.

It depends on your PowerDVD-version what type of sound is playable ore to be decode.
My AV-Receiver displays DTS-Neo when I choose the optical input which is connected with my HTPC.

It's the same version (forget the patch version) that output DTS/DD over HDMI on the same hardware fine in Vista. The only thing that has changed is Windows 7 (and MPC).

But it's not just PowerDVD. As mentioned in my original post, everything outputs as PCM.

    Hi,

you should use ffdshow as audio output and select bypass for DTS in the ffdshow option. I use myself the powerdvd10 video codecs with the ffdshow audio codec on my Yamaha RX-V3800 DTS work fine.

I had ffdshow, it still output 2 channel PCM. I've uninstalled to try and fix this problem.

After a few frustration reboots PowerDVD now stays on AC3/DTS passthru, and that works fine. Everything else still outputs 2 channel PCM.

I've now installed AC3-Filter to try and sort it. Still got the PCM output but it shows the details below. The settings for AC£filter output format are "AS IS (no change)".

    Any help, thanks.

    Bob.

EDIT : Oh yeah, upgraded to Catalyst 10.5 and after installing AC3filter Windows Media Player now plays MKVs ok (without crashing).
