I had ffdshow, it still output 2 channel PCM. I've uninstalled to try and fix this problem.

edit.. also enable passtrough in ffdshow and AC3filter

I cannot find a passthru option in AC3filter, but I have set output to be "AS IS (no change)".

Why don't you try to unistall of your codecs and pack?
And install only SAF 4.00 or if you need DTS-MA or DD-THD, install SAF 5.00.
    It works perfect to me.

ToXIc : Thanks but I don't want to use spdif, I want to use HDMI. I had unchecked the PCM option.

@jocker Boy : Again thanks, but I'd just like to stick with Haali and ffdshow/MPC-MPA which have worked flawlessly before.

    Quick update. I've tried everything.

I tried to creating new EDID information. I uninstalled Catalyst, the Realtek HD audio drivers, AC3filter and Haali. I then re-installed them one by one rebooting and retrying between each.

As a last desperate measure I'm going to try SAF before binning Windows 7 and moving back to the much better Vista.

ToXIc : I tried spdif passthru and (as expected) I got no sound as I'm not using spdif. My initial install was using the MediaPortal guide.

    Another update for anyone interested.

I saw a post on another forum called Windows 7 codec bible, it mentioned that Windows 7 uses something called Windows Media Foundation and it should be disabled. After following their instructions and using a program called DSFilterTweaker I now get PCM5.1 instead of PCM2. Not perfect as it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as DD/DTS but at least I have surround now instead of stereo!

Have the same issue in Windows 7. Everything outputs in PCM. Even windows sounds!
In Vista everything worked fine on the same config.

Don't even know what to do :(
