Operating System DTS HD on Windows 8 (1 Viewer)

Hi Everybody,

I come here after many search on the web, and if you can help me to solve my problem.
My configuration :
MotherBoard : Asus FM2A85-M LE
Proc : A10-5800K (APU)
System : Windows 8 64 bits
Receiver : Onkyo TX-SR309

My problem :
I cant obtain DTS HD Master Audio on my receiver. I do the test with the Darknight Rise Bluray, i choise the DTS Master Audio track and no DTS Master sound on my receiver. If i do this with my bluray samsung and the same movie it's ok

I do this tests :
- Powerdvd 12 on windows 7 64 bits
- Powerdvd 13 on windows 7 64 bits
- Powerdvd 12 on windows 8 64 bits
- Powerdvd 13 on windows 8 64 bits
- Totalmedia theater 6 on windows 7 64 bits
- Totalmedia theater 6 on windows 8 64 bits

I install the last catalyst and/or last realtek, on windows sound manager i have the DTS MA on the list.

In the sound option of powerdvd i have this choice, if i don't insert the disc :
1. pcm decoded by powerdvd
2. non-decoded dolby/dts signal
3. non-decoded high definition audio to external device
I choose the 3 option, but if i insert the disc and play it, i switch automatically to the first choice. If i want change i have this :
1. pcm decoded by powerdvd
2. non-decoded dolby/dts signal

The second choice just give me simple DTS.

I test a sample in Master HD on VLC and it's the same i just have DTS logo on my receiver. VLC is on bitstream mode. It's ok with a simple DTS movie.

Apparently the same problem has been solved on 5000 ATI series

Anyone can help me please ? I am lost .....

how do you connect htpc to your receiver? hdmi, SPDIF?

have you configured control panel - sound and audio devices - playback - select_your_HDMI_Output - configure or properties, and there you should be able to define how many speakers, supported samplerates/bitdepth etc. Maybe there are some settings that DTS HD doesn't pass into...

I think this is correct... (I don't have HD Audio or Blu Ray)

MediaPortal Configuration -> Codecs & Renderes -> Blu-ray -> Audio Codecs

LPCM/AC3/DTS: LAV Audio
Audio Renderer: HDMI (Don't choose MP audio renderer)

Lav Audio settings: Enable DTS-HD passthrough/bitstreaming

The wiki guide tells to you to use MPAR, however if you use MPAR you will not get DTS-HD because Lav Audio can't decode DTS-HD it can only bitstream DTS-HD. Also to I'm pretty sure to bitstream the audio it has to go directly via HDMI not via MPAR.

as i understood thunderwolf he doesn't tell anything about MP and tried CyberLink PDVD and ArcSoft TMT only

Ahh my bad I skimmed he questions, and I assumed because this is MP forum he was using the PDVD/Arcsoft codecs with MP.

Still we should probably put something in our wiki as the MPAR section seems to suggest that DTS-HD gets decoded with either LAV or MPC (where as it doesn't).

Yes vasilich i tried on powerdvd and homemedia theater only

On windows config is ok. I have the dts hd codec on the audio codec list on windows.

i am not talking about audio decoders in windows (as PDVD and TMT have own decoders), but about properties or configuration of audio devices.
