    Hi Pc1

I notice that you have SELECTV. Just wondering if you have any problems with cartoon network? My 7 year old used to watch it and lately it has been frozen. All other select channels are OK it is just Cartoon network. I haven't changed anything so it has me puzzled.

    Hi Wazm,

I have had trouble with the cartoon network. I've had the frozen screen a couple of times and the issue I have most often is losing sound. The sound issue sometimes manifests itself on bloomberg, BBC and CNNI too. The only resolution I have found is to rescan the channels.

I'd be interested to read whether you encounter any other problems with dvb-s like the card not initialising after re-boot or after resuming from sleep. I've written a script to disable/enable the card and restart the tvservice to fix the problem. Sometimes I also have to remove and re-insert the CAM.

    Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. The only channel I have a problem with is Cartoon Network and it is all the time. My son recorded something on friday night and when it plays back it is a frozen screen. If you jump forward 15 seconds however, the scene changes. I tried to play it on other PCs in the house using anything that would look at a ts file but the results were the same. Frozen screen but updates as you jump through the recording. I then tried opening the file with videoredo and it worked. I was able to open it and cut out the add and resave it as an mpeg and it is now fine. It must be a codec issue but I haven't changed any codecs which has me confused. What codecs and operating system are you using?

I occasionally have the remove the card and reinsert but probably only about once a month. I do sometimes need to go and fire up the digital (whatever the name of the program is) tv program and view the status of the cam and card and that does seem to get it working but again that is rare and only when removing the card doesn't seem to work. I do get scrambled every now and then after a reboot but I just try a different channel (probably on a different transponder) and that normally does work and then I change back. eg: if I go to euro sport and it is scrambled, I try movie one. That seems to work about 99% of the time. I would be interested in that script though as that may solve the restart problem for me as well. Sleep doesn't work well fo me as my system seems to get an interrupt error and reboots. I think it is the wireless card driver causing it so I have turned off sleep mode till I get round to doing the cabling to downstairs.

Maybe we need to get a select tv group together so we can get on top of problems? Would be small I bet as most people seem to be happy paying more for foxtel and austar where select does fine for me. Wish they had the scifi channel though :D

I think the SELECTV thread is a great idea. I've started one here:

Calling all SELECTV users - MediaPortal Forum

Re Codecs - I'm currently using powerdvd7 codec (PDVD7) for MPEG2 TV but I've been able use the default MPV codec with the cartoon channel in the past without experiencing the freezing problem. I've found the powerdvd codec to be superior when watching fast moving sports such as AFL particularly when the camera is panning quickly.

I've just tried some tests on the cartoon network and you might be interest in this:

    1. I have the no sound issue again. Video is fine.
    2. Tried differend sound codec - still no sound, now video is frozen too
    3. flip to eurosport (fine) and back to cartoon network - still no sound, video ok

    Go figure??

    My script is:

    devcon.exe disable *PCI\VEN_1822*
    devcon.exe enable *PCI\VEN_1822*
    net stop "TVService"
    net start "TVService"

You need to download devcon from microsoft if you don't already have it. The lines with *PCI\VEN_1822* will find the device with *PCI\VEN_1822* in the name of the device. the vendor id of the mantis card is had VEN_1822 in it on my PC and I suspect yours will be the same. If not, you may need to amend this line. Just save this in a text file and rename it with a .bat extension.

I don't have a wireless card so no issues there for me. I suspect my sleep issues are related to the CAM (I have the purple SMIT CAM). There are no problems with the DVB-T card when waking from sleep.

    Hi,

Are you using Vista or XP? I have tried a lot of codecs and need to reinstall to get rid of few. I found that some are better than others on different channels so I guess it need a happy medium codec. I have PDVD8 and it isn't too bad, also trying to get the AFL to look better. I know strange for someone in NSW to watch AFL but I have lived here all my life and have never seen a rugby (either style) in my life so go figure :). I have a trial of elecad codec loaded at the moment and I think I may buy it as it does look very good. I think it mis a 15 day trial so I will decide on about day 14.

Thanks for the script. I will give it a go during the week. :D
