[confirm] DVB-S stops working after a while - More User have that problem (1 Viewer)

Hello MP Team,

since a long time I observe that MP-Server stops DVB-S for TV and Radio after a while. I hoped that with the finial fix for my old thread (see: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/tswriter-deadlock-potential-fix.114898/page-14#post-999773) which should be integrated in 1.6.0 alpha that problem would be fixed also.

Unfortunatelly I had the same problem again: After about 3-6 days DVB-S stops working.
To be exact:

1. I open MP Client
2. I choose TV or Radio
3. I click on a program
4. Sand Clock (moving circle) appears
5. An error Window, black window which "TV - ..." appears - No error message!!!
6. I click on X right upper corner of messagebox
7. Messagebox and sandclock vanish
8. nothing further happens
(9. DVB-T is still working well)
10. Restart of TV Server solves that problem and MP works as normal​

So, this problem is still there. Only difference to earlier versions is this errorwindow. In former times there had been a message like "no signal". Now there is no error message at all???

Right now I do not exactly know after which time DVB-S stops working but this behavior is annoying esspecially if MP should record a DVB-S program. I feel in 1.6.0 it tooks longer to reach that problem state...

Please, have a look to that bug, perhaps You have to reopen https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...lock-potential-fix.114898/page-14#post-999773 again.

Your TV Server logs are full of these messages:

thanks I'm allright ;-)

I repaired the database as described. Only two warmings that channel and program table was not closed properly by 8 clients.

Do You belive this is related to my problem? Is there any interaction with the db while starting tv? And why is DVB-T running and DVB-S not?

In this DVB-S topic I'm sure that is could be a small issue in MP, something like a missing restart or init, because the DVB-S viewer comming from techno trend is working well in this moments...

Yes.

And why is DVB-T running and DVB-S not?

When I've looked at your logs and seen this in the past, the problem often shows itself as "PMT not found" messages. This can mean the tuner is simply not providing the stream to TV Server. Such behaviour can easily affect one tuner and not others. To be clear, in my opinion it is not a DVB-T vs. DVB-S difference; it is a Nebula tuner vs. TechnoTrend tuner (+ CI/CAM) difference.

You don't need to apologise.
Difficult problems sometimes take a long time to solve. In the case of the TsWriter problem, the thing that took the longest was understanding the cause of the problem. Once the cause was found, the problem was easily solved. For this problem there is a key difference: you're the only person reporting this problem. So either other people are simply not reporting or the problem is specific to your system configuration.

Sure. TechnoTrend will know how to make their tuners work best!
The problem is not that we don't know how to make the tuner work again - restarting the TV service will make it work. Rather, the problem is preventing the problem from occurring after days of use. So, a more fair comparison would be to try to use the TechnoTrend software for days without closing it. Then see if the same problem occurs.

so I'm back, much quicker as aspected. Here are the new logs for You.

I get the error "Programm / Kanal nicht gefunden". - I tried fixing DB but no problems and no solution for that problem.

I tested DVB-S with decrypted channel and without decrypted channel on DVB-S with the same error. But DVB-T is running well as usual...

In the logs I saw several PMT problems like

I get the error "Programm / Kanal nicht gefunden". - I tried fixing DB but no problems and no solution for that problem.

This is nothing to do with the database. It is a generic message which means the tuner successfully tuned to the frequency but TV Server did not find the service/channel in the stream. There are three causes for this message:

1. The channel has moved to a different frequency or no longer exists (broadcasting stopped).
2. The channel is not active. In the UK there are channels which are only available between 7pm and 7am (or something like that). If you try to tune the channel at 3pm you would see this message.
3. The tuner has a CAM and the CAM is blocking the stream.

The first cause is by far the most common.

I tested DVB-S with decrypted channel and without decrypted channel on DVB-S with the same error. But DVB-T is running well as usual...

Yep, that is expected. When you have the problem with the DVB-S tuner, it is caused by (3) above. The problem will only affect the DVB-S tuner because that is the only tuner which has a CAM. When the problem occurs all channels will stop working (even free channels).
Next time this happens please test if the problem is resolved by:

1. Removing and reinserting the smartcard.
2. Removing and reinserting the CAM.
3. Stopping and restarting the TV service.

I'm certain that (3) will solve the problem. If (1) or (2) also solve the problem then it tells you clearly that the cause is the CAM (as I have always suspected).

PMT = program map table
It is the channel information - the list of video, audio and subtitle streams.
"NoPmtFound" in the log file is the same as "Programm / Kanal nicht gefunden" in MediaPortal. The three causes are explained above.

I can't read German. In any case: "PMT not found" is a generic message. Anybody can receive that message with any kind of tuner. Please don't look for other threads because they are not relevant for you.

When you see "NoPmtFound" in the log file or "Programm / Kanal nicht gefunden" in MediaPortal there are [currently] two causes:

1. The EPG grabber using the DVB-T tuner to try to grab for ANIXE iTV.
2. The DVB-S problem.

In the first case (DVB-T EPG), TV Server has tried and failed to tune ANIXE iTV 2313 times since 2013-12-08 01:38:10,065 (!!!). The cause is (1) or (2) (ie. channel moved, deleted or not active). If the channel has moved then you need to rescan DVB-T; if the channel no longer exists, please delete it. This will increase the life of your tuner and reduce your server power use.

In the second case (DVB-S problem), the cause is (3) - the CAM blocking the stream. For the first time I can finally see the start of the problem:

After this tune request, all attempts to tune DVB-S channels are giving "PMT not found".

So what happened?
Well, the tuner seems to tune to the transponder successfully.
TV Server finds the PMT and asks the CAM to decrypt it.
The CAM says okay and starts to decrypt.
Then we see:

Strange! The CAM thinks the CAM menu is open and is trying to close it.
After that you see the exception messages as TV Server attempts to close the CAM menu which is not open.

...and again TV Server fails because the CAM menu is not open.

I don't know either. CAMs are just strange sometimes...

Only problem is DVB-S EPG, have a look in tv-server-error log, please.

There are various exceptions raised. Most are from before the logs started. I can't do anything with them.

These are caused by attempting to scan frequency 18.366 GHz. That is not possible for any tuner that I know of. Must be an error in the transponder list.

So, in the morning you only got a handful of entries for the channel. In the evening you got hundreds.

Hi mm,

that German message meant that I tried to update the firmware of CAM module but there is no newer version available.


I'm still struggling with that EPG topic. Two days ago I setup up MP 1.6 completely new on my server because I hoped that there was something broken in configuration...


But over the time I saw that not all channels were filled with epg data. There are some holes in between and that for complete days??


That is strange because with 1.5. I didn't had that problem??? And that is not only for DVB-S but also for DVB-T. Do You know if in 1.6 there had been anything had been chanced for EPG handling? Please, find attached new logs. Can you see there any reason for that behavior?


I'm thinking of going back to 1.5 to test what happen there??

Any further advice?


By the way to smaller topics:

- Displaying "Empfangs Details" (Tuning details?) for DVB-T in TV Mode shows a signal bar which runs vey quick from somewhere in the middle to zero on the left hand side. Signal must be good because picture and audio are well? Is this a bug?


- Collecting logs: I got an Exception window because MPTemp directory was not empty because former log had been copied to that dir and MediaPortal debug crashed the first time. That is a bug and can be solved pretty easily ;-))

From what I can see the message was appearing automatically. Google translate says the message was telling you that you need to update the firmware, and to do that you have to tune to a certain transponder. Maybe I am wrong...

There were zero EPG related changes in MP 1.6, so I don't think downgrading will help you. In fact, it could make things worse unless you remember to install the TsWriter deadlock fix.

Please, find attached new logs. Can you see there any reason for that behavior?

I already spent a lot of time looking at your previous log files. I told you in some cases it looks like full EPG is grabbed; other times it looks like only a few entries are grabbed. I don't know why, but it could be that the EPG grabber is not grabbing for long enough.

I think you'd be wasting your time because there were no changes, but of course you're free to try it if you want.

Sorry, I don't have enough time to analyse such large log files. Please be more specific if you want my help. For example:

"I don't see any EPG for channel 'abc' even though I enabled grabbing for it. Here are screenshots of my configuration."

There is no difference in the code for DVB-T, DVB-S and DVB-C, so if there was a bug you should also see it for DVB-S. Also, I don't see this with my DVB-T tuner.
