    working Asus remote für MP

    Hi Spragleknas!

Did you ever figure out using the asus remote??

    I do :D

I use eventghost (a little tricky setup) but after that you can map the asus remote keys like you want.

So if you still need help plz give me a short info ... I'll try to make a short howto .for you or anybody else (if there's no need I'm to lazy :p )

I still have the remote laying around, but got ridd of the box - as I said; not my damn HTPC :D

Although I think it migh be good to get this to work "out of the box" with IR Server Suite (CHEMELLI!!!! :D) , so any detalis and experience are welcome :)

I've no experience with IR Server Suite ... is it a similar soft to eventghost ... if so, I'll make a short description ... maybe then chemelli will be able to see what is needed to use the asus remote within MP/ServerSuite

    Asus Remote workaround

Here's a little guide, to use all buttons of the EeeBox remote within MP.

    1) download and install the latest EventGhost software HERE (nice freeware tool)

    2) sounds crazy but believe me it works :p
When adding a standard USB HID reciever through event ghost i got the following list asking me to select a device:
'MCE USB IR RECIEVER - Spinel plusf0r ASUS'
'MCE USB IR RECIEVER - Spinel plusf0r ASUS'
'MCE USB IR RECIEVER - Spinel plusf0r ASUS'
'MCE USB IR RECIEVER - Spinel plusf0r ASUS'
The key to mapping all buttons was to first select the top device, then go back in and add another USB HID reciever and select the second device, then again with the third and fourth.
from another forum (thx to ndschris)
    (picture hid plugin)

Now, if you try any button you'll see it working in the log window of eventghost

    3) add the plugin MediaPortal to eventghost
(read the info that comes with the plugin install / there's also a plugin needed for MP / follow the link and install the plugin)

    4) now you can map all buttons to MP in eventghost /
push a asus button you want to map -> drag and drop the listed button in the left window to the needed MP key in the right window (screenshot mapping) and so on

    thats it

    I'm here :)

IRSS has custom HID plugin that should do the trick for that device imho. Can you try out latest version ( just released :p ) and give me feedback please ?

    :D

    Hi chemelli!

IRSS didn't work for the Asus remote (so far).

If i push the detect button, irss found no remote. So i set it manually to Custom HID.

After that I try it with TrayLauncher, by pressing the remote button there's no reaction on any key press in IRSS (time out).

I'm very impressed about the possibilities of IRSS. But ...
... first time setup of IRSS is quite complicated for a new user I'm afraid (and yes i use the wiki).

To help you, to point me in the right direction, here's what i did:

    1) install latest IRSS
    2) setup IRSS Service, try the detect button / no success
    3) manually set IRSS to "custom HID" ... ask to restart Service ... push "OK"
    4) launch Trylauncher set it up to launch "restart.vbs"
    5) push the remote button ... push a button on the remote ... time out message from TrayLauncher

Attached you'll find the log files, maybe you'll find out what's wrong with my setup, or with me :p :D

    AW: EEE box 206 remote

i use the same remote in the meanwhile but have the same problems with it :)

I already tried Eventghost, which works nearly perfect, because on ever yrestart, it "forgets" the 4x HID-Devices and i have to remap the devices.

Does any other way exists to use this remote ?

    Thankx ! :)

As you can see in the note we gave during install, HID devices works only in application mode ;)

    Hi darkkiller!

    it forgets the 4x HID

I never had to do this again! Maybe there's a window option wrong in your setup. As long as you use the same USB Port for the remote it shoud'nt loose the HID devices. No clue what is wrong with your setup.

Plz take a look at the advanced settings of your USB device within the windows hardware settings. Did you disable the "power saving options" for the usb devices?
