I've noticed that many users have had trouble setting up their epg in Mediaportal. Myself included. That's why I've made this simple guide using MegaEpg with Mediaportal. Which is the fastest, easiest and most reliable epg downloader I've found.
My version of MegaEpg comes with only three countries in the setup (Israel, Norway, South Africa) but it is possible to check the MegaEpg site for more supported countries. I haven't tried that though.
So this guide is mainly for norwegian users. I have Canal Digital's cable tv, (Grunnpakke med Canal+) and the only channels missing are: BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge and Boomerang.
To wake up my computer for epg grabbing I use WakeUpOnStandby in combination with Girder. You could use only WakeUpOnStandby or just Windows Task Scheduler, but I'm using Girder because I'm doing some other tasks as well as long as the computer is awake.
Installation and configuration of MegaEpg
1. Download MegaEpg Installation is straight forward.
2. Setup MegaEpg. Also straight forward, but don't start to grab after the setup.
3. Find "megaepg.ini" Add this line: xmlfile=tvguide.xml
4. Copy "xmltv.dtd" to your MegaEpg grabbing folder. It's usually found in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\xmltv" or whatever folder you've put it in.
5. Start "megaepgw.exe" to grab epg.
Now it's time to configure Mediaportal to use the epg grabbed with MegaEpg.
6. Start TV-server configuration.
7. In "Plugins" activate XmlTv.
Configuring XmlTv
8. Settings tab:
- Point to the folder your "tvguide.xml" generated with MegaEpg is stored.
9. Mappings tab:
- Click "Load/Refresh"
- Some channels are mapped automatically, but you have to manually map the ones which is not.
- When you're finished mapping the channels, click "Save".
10. Settings tab:
- Click "Import"
I recommend you to disable TV-server's built in DVB Epg grabber.
That's it. Now you can start Mediaportal and the epg's there. It could take some time to get all the channels, but don't worry, they will come.
Excuse my poor english and if I've forgot something, please let me know.
