Hi,

I have formatted my PC and wanted to set up MediaPortal TV Server.
I followed the video instructions by installing all Windows Updates, SQL Server 2005 Express and Management Console and VB Runtimes.

When I started TV Server, I entered the SQL Password and the Test was successfull. But then I get the message:
"The database cannot be upgraded and will therefore be (re)created.
Do you want to proceed?"

After selecting "yes" the error message "failed to open database" appears.

I have already deleted the TVLibrary.mdf and ldf files in the SQL-Server\Data folder, but that hasn't solved the problem. After deleting them and restarting TV Server, I get asked again if the Database should be (re)created, and after selecting yes again, the TVLibrary.mdf and ldf are created again and the same error message appears.

I am running Server 2003 RC2.

Any ideas?

After some more extensive searching I have found the problem:
My SQL Server Password had the Symbol & in it, which seems to cause some problems. So I changed the SQL Server password, reinstallted the TV Engine, and now it works.

Hint for the developers: Maby you could add a line ("Make sure your SQL password does not contain the symbol: &") to the error message "Failed to open Database"?
