Hey Mate

I had this problem yesterday and managed to get it working again.

After uninstalling Media portal twice without any luck I decided to run a registry cleaner after the third uninstall, then rebooted and ran registry cleaner again, re-installed media portal and its all sweet again.

could you suggest a good registry cleaner? I have been installing/uninstalling a lot of stuff lately that might have bugged it up.

I use CCleaner. Always works well for me and it's free.

Yeah I have been in/uninstalling a lot of stuff too since taking the Media Portal plunge 6 days ago. this is after running Vista Media Center for the last 2 years without a problem. lol

Gutted, no luck with the Registry Cleaner. Same error :(
I really dont know why this error is happening, less than 2 months ago it was working fine, i was watching a HD signal from Hamilton on my inbuilt tuner, then I move back north, and it stops working

AAARGH!

Update: I unistalled Media Portal, SQL and deleted all remaining folders to do with MP, did a RegClean, rebooted, then re-installed MP again. No luck again, still got error when trying to open TV Server Configuration.

Now willing to donate money to MP if this problem can be solved.

Wish I could help you, but I do not really know the cause of that error.

A few things that I would have done:

Although you stated you already tried it, make sure you followed the "defender breaks localhost" steps to the letter. Make sure the file you edit is called host - WITHOUT any extension. Is your Explorer/MyComputer configured to show all file extensions? If not, one might be under the impression that there is no extension but in the mean time Notepad saved it as .txt. Unlikely, but just make sure.
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/windows-defender-breaks-localhost-56258/

Try the loopback-instructions in the manual.
    TV-Server/FAQ - MediaPortal Manual Documentation
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...ack-device-singleseat-users-51028/#post348973

Running on an administrator account? If not, try and see if there is a difference.

    Re-read the manual instructions on
    - MS SQL Server Installation
    - MS SQL Server Configuration
    or
    - MySQL Installation

Also re-read the following manual pages:
    - TV-Server/install-TV-Server - MediaPortal Manual Documentation
    - TV-Server/Configuration/Firewall - MediaPortal Manual Documentation
    - TV-Server/Configuration - MediaPortal Manual Documentation

Really hope you pick up something in there that will solve the problem.

    Good luck :)
