Hi,

I have connected the above system to a 5.1 Pioneer VSX-LX60 which supports up to DTS via HDMI.
Up to recently I only had stereo sound when playing .MKV files (DVD's & playstation work fine) via my HTPC.

After reading a lot on the forum's I decided to start reconfiguring the system to get 5.1 sound. Using the FFSHOW codec seemed the best option.

Now I did download the verion of 8/12/2009 and installed it.
It works, however there is 1 problem: The sound is 'stuttering', and I see on the display of my amp that the dts signalling is from time to time for a fraction of a second falling away. The weardest thing is that the frequency depends upon the 'content' of the sound; i.e. when there is a scene with no music, only voice then it might work for 5-10 seconds. On the other hand when it is a scene with lots of action (music) then it happens every 2-3 seconds.

Anybody an idea where the problem could be?

Second question: I am looking for a freeware tool that helps me in identifiing in a .MKV or .AVI the type of sound (i.e AAC, DD,DTS,....)

Thanks a lot inn advance:)

1. check CPU utilization for scenes where you get crackles.
1a. have you selected passthrough in ffdshow options, or reeencode?
2. try MediaInfo - MP uses its DLL for identifying also

Vasilich,
Thx for your suggestions: The MediaInfo software is just what I need.

For the ffdshow config: As soon as my kids stop watching their movie, I'll check

:D

Vasilich,

I did the tests: CPU is not going above 50%.
Pass-through is selected

--> I'm using FFDShow of December 2009. Where can I find the most recent/stable one?

:D

Here you can find all the ffdshow svns. I suggest you go for the revision number 3444 since this one is the most stable and bug free for me.

do a google search on the ffdshow version from my sig below

    it works great for me

my amp is a sony...5.1 dts...i connect via spdif and use the ffdshow codec or the MPC-HC codec for audio

it will pass thru whatever the pc can to the amp...which will decode it there ...the key part is that the amp does all the work...check in the ffdshow audi decoder config that in the "output" section all the passthru options are enabled and that encoding option is off
