Fluctuating Sound Levels (2 Viewers)

Hi Ray,

I'm going to take the risk of looking like a real idiot here and "fess up" ........... found that the plug connecting my PC to the TV and Stereo via splitter (to each device) was not plugged in correctly ..... therefore the fluctuating sound and the reason that I was also getting unbalanced sound. Man, the number of times at work I say to my staff when they have an issue .... have you checked connections!!!

I only found this out after taking the initative to reload the drivers from the ASUS installation disk (which has seemed to have fixed the intermittant no sound issue I also have along with not being able to select and save a type of sound i.e. Rock, Jazz etc) and then thinking what else could it be!!!

Simple when you get back to basics.

You never know, maybe someone else has exactly this issue, finds this forum and like me, did not think of the obvious

Hi All,

Although my fluctuating sound issue is resolved, I still have this anoying issue of intermittantly loosing sound after resuming from S3 sleep. As mentioned before, I have reloaded the Soundmax Drivers from the original disk and looked for driver updates, but still no luck.

I'm also using Powerscheduler to put the machine into S3 sleep - could this be causing any issues?

Did you try the updated drivers from the Asus website I mentioned ?

If nothing else works, the 'devcon' utility - The DevCon command-line utility functions as an alternative to Device Manager - can be used to do device manager functions from a command line, so you could do a disable-enable or restart of the sound hardware on resume from standby (PowerScheduler can run things on resume, as far as I remember, as can some other utilities).

No, not as yet.

Some questions:

1. would there be any risk to my machine loading these or can I simply just uninstall? Have not done restore pointbefore and wonder if it's necessary? Did you bother?

2. how do I know which one is appropriate? I have Vista 32 bit with an ASUS P5K-E Wi-Fi Motherboard.

Thoughts?

1. If you are concerned, create a restore point first - control panel -> system -> system protection -> 'Create...' button

2. This one - ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/SoundMAX_Audio_V610X6480_Vista.zip - looks the best bet, but I've no way of knowing for sure.

Hi Tony,

Have installed the new driver OK, however in Media Portal only, the sound appears to be half the volume of the PC e.g. if I ran U Tube for instance. Any ideas?

Will see how the sound is over the next few weeks after S3 resume - keep your fingers crossed.

Installing the new drivers will probably have reset all the Windows sound mixer levels.

Run MP in windowed mode, play something and then open the Windows sound mixer - adjust the MediaPortal level to taste....

(in Vista, every application that uses sound has it's own 'virtual' sound level slider in the mixer).

Hi Tony,

Everything looked like it installed OK, but I now have an issue with my RAID 0 volume - the drive does not appear anywhere, including Windows Exploror. I tried to restore back to the restore point, but I have the same issue.

Any ideas?
