    Dear All,

I had an HTPC with MP 1.8 on it, and all was working well. Recently due to hardware problems I bought a new HTPC and given the opportunity of a clean setup I upgraded to MP 1.11. I have my music collection on a NAS (network storage Unit). Once I set the music folder path and click on update DB, the process completes after 98 music files only, although I have more than a thousand. My music files are all .flac and .aiff. I made sure these extensions are in the extension list in MP. I delete the link to the shared folder and created a new one and re-scanned but with the same results. Only 98 songs from the same three artists. Any ideas on what to look for/ try fixing? In MP 1.8 didn't encounter this problem.

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards

    AT

    No.

    Hi,

My problem is slightly different than what I thought. Yes the rescan lasts very little time in comparison with before (processing files up to around 115 when I have thousands). But if I switch to share view I can see all my music under the corresponding artist records (all my collection is structured in physical folders Artist--->Album) and I can play the music. But if I switch to artist view (or any view that depends on file metadata) it sees only three artists. Possibly associated with not processing all the files. I know all my files have metadata and in the previous MP setup I had (1.8) music was working as expected.

So I ran the watchdog for MP, went to settings did a scan on a new share (same location, different name) watched it do the limited file processing and the problem was the same. Then I exited MP. Log files attached.

    Thank you

You can see that the tag reader thinks some of your AIF files aren't actually AIFs... but the biggest problem seems to be an extra long path/file name. The error log is pretty clear:

    Thanks for the quick response.

Seeing now the log it seems some have extension .aif instead of .aiff, but anyway the above log is only about the 98 songs that are recognized. What about the thousands that are not processed?

Could it that the long file name/directory name stops the process? Why MP 1.11 can not handle something that MP 1.8 could?

I'll try to eliminate the long filenames and see if that makes a difference.

Yes - that's exactly what I was trying to say.

Why MP 1.11 can not handle something that MP 1.8 could?
Pass. I'm not an expert on the music section, but I doubt that the code relating to this function has changed recently because we don't have anybody actively working on the music section.
Are you sure something didn't change on your side? For example, the share name, or the way you've organised your music.
...and are you sure you previously had that music (ie. not a new purchase) and that it was actually imported successfully by MP?

Ok I think this issue is closed since I found a work around.

Yesterday I tried to import my music in a different way. I created new directory, moved all my music there. then I moved only artists with letter A back to the shared folder. Did the rescan, same result, only one artist gets their metadata processed. I do the same again excluding that particular artist and this time smaller batch (4 artist folders at a time) and..Eureka!! all artists metadata processed. I keep doing the same adding to the shared folder a small number of artists (folders with sub folders) and they get processed till the whole A letter group was processed successfully.

It is a mystery to me but I am a happy customer again. MP would process small number of files/folders at a time but not big ones.

So did you eventually get all your music imported, or did the folders/artists which caused errors (=> import stop) not import at all?

MP would process small number of files/folders at a time but not big ones.
I wonder if share security or network reliability is an issue. Is this new HTPC of yours connect with wireless or wired networking?
What happens if you copy the music folder from the NAS onto the HTPC and try to import it in its entirety?

    @mm1352000

Haven't scanned all music yet just "A" artists, but even 'A" wouldn't import if all files where in the share, but as said it imported when I was adding a few artists at a time. The HTPC is on wired gigabit network pulling data from a Synology 5 bay NAS. Haven't tried copying all the music from the NAS locally but that wouldn't be practical, since I wouldn't be interested in such a solution, so I won't explore it.
