Even so, a dedicated "Placeshift" feature would be cool. Behind the scene it could be just a recording that is scheduled, and is not added to the actual recordings database and is deleted x-number of minutes/hours after it is started.

I think there could be different scenarios:
    1) I watch a Tv Show on TV "A", and want to leave this TVclient finally (stopp this TV)to continue the show on another TV "B"
    2) I watch a TV Show on TV "A", and I do want to leave it running and continue from another TV client "B" (Kitchen :) ). TV "A" would then be used for different Programs etc. aswell.
3)Automatically populate the actual TV Show to all (or a certain collection of-)TV clients available, or that are made available.

    cheers

Something else: I don't know if its a ForTheRecord issue or a skin Issue, but here goes: I use StreamedMP. Whenever I "jump" in a recording/movie/etc (left/right Arrow, jump 15/30/60 secs etc.) I get shown the info-box (telling me what show is on) for the duration that the OSD is visible. Previously there were only a small bar, showing the time and how much I jumped.
Is this the skin that has changed or is it ForTheRecord? It's pretty annoying, since there is not enough time to read it anyway :p
Must be a skin issue since this has not changed, nor has this been reported before. And it certainly doesn't happen on my clients using the standard Blue3wide skin.

As I did the 4TR skin for StreamedMP I will take a look at it this w/e - don't remember it behaving as you describe though....as it happens with movies as well it may be a skin wide issue. What version of MP and StreamedMP are you using?

I'm only using RC4 at the moment (and can't remember StreamedMP version). I'll try to update to MP1.0 and newest StreamedMP once I get the time (damn, I'm short of that at the moment). If the problem still exists I will report it.
No need for you to look through all the skincode to check for something that might just be an issue of me not updating.
I just wanted to make sure if FTR changed something related to this, before I reported it in StreamedMP.

    I'll be back...:D

What about adding some (more-) killer features to 4tr:

    - my private TV channel (automatic recording, based on viewing habits, and genre setup for example) ?

sorry if this is kind of off topic, I was just wondering if something like this is on your roadmap/achievable?

    I already have a private channel...it's called Private Spice :D :p

Version 1.3.3 of For The Record has been released.

This is a maintenance release with a very strong focus on improving performance. Some of the more complex rules are now up to 30 times(!) faster than before. More common things will be quicker too: browsing the TV guide, popping up the mini-guide,...

We also improved the setup to automatically install the .NET 3.5 SP1 framework for you if needed. And to install Web Access on the built-in Cassini web server (much easier than having to configure IIS beforehand).

And of course some small new features too: support for logical channel numbers (LCNs), a disk-usage indicator in the MMC,...

This is the list of changes since version 1.3.2.0:

    • Core: switched entire solution to .NET 3.5 SP1, installer can download and install the framework for you if needed. Ajax 1.0 is no longer required!
    • Core: implemented custom indexing: schedules that search in descriptions or for actors/directors will be way way way faster.
    • Core: optimized the upcoming recordings cache: is even more effective now.
    • Core: optimized the API for guide and recording browsing.
    • Core: added some more high-level logging for starting/ending recordings.
    • Core: added support for logical channel numbers.
    • Core: added new setting for the number of minutes your server will wake up before an event (default 2).
    • Core: some small changes to ImportProgramOperation to hopefully fix duplicate programs issue with DVB-EPG.
    • Web Access: added UltiDev Cassini web server to the setup and allow the user to choose between IIS or Cassini installation for Web Access.
    • Web Access: search TV Guide now performs a search when you press the enter key.
    • MediaPortal UI: fixed problem in zapping code that could lead to a "no free card" error when a card-swap was needed.
    • MediaPortal UI: client now correctly keeps track of the current program during live TV.
    • MediaPortal UI: optimized GetCurrentAndNext... operations, mini-guide is a lot faster now.
    • MediaPortal UI: now opens the real TV guide from fullscreen instead of the overlay one to avoid issues.
    • MediaPortal UI: some small tweaks to better remember the last-watched position.
    • MMC: added simple command-line support to the Management Console: {tcp|https} <servername> [<port>]. If port is not set the default is used for the given transport.
    • MMC: added "Sort By LCN" to TV channels and TV channel groups panels.
    • MMC: added "Visible On" and "Visible Off" buttons to TV channels panel.
    • MMC: it's now possible to multi-select and delete schedules.
    • MMC: pre- and post-recording times are now displayed as minutes instead of seconds.
    • MMC: added items to recordings popup menu to run a post processing command manually.
    • MMC: showing disk free/used space in the Recorded Programs panel.
    • IM-Bot: now notifies when a recording starts or stops (can be turned on/off with new notifications command).

Rather than continue posting to this incredibly long thread, could a new thread be created for this new version?

I almost didn't notice that a new version was available since (like everyone else), when I look for new posts, I'm not expecting a post with 300+ messages in it to be related to a new version.

Usually, 99% of the info in this sort of thread is not relevant to the new version, and anyone that's asked to read though the thread to find the answer to a frequently asked question will get very discouraged. And there are bits of advice, suggestions, solutions, etc. in this thread that, if followed, will result in a mixed up, non-working, or totally messy system.

So please, start a new thread. Any questions related to older versions can go here, and questions for the new version can go in the new thread.

If you open the For The Record Management console, you will be notified that a new version is available, along with a link to the post announcing it on our forum. Secondly, a simple subscription on our releases thread and you would have been mailed too.

Ok, yes a new version announcement would appear that way, and yes, I could subscribe to a thread except that I don't want to read or be notified when people post to this 350+ long thread. If there's a releases thread somewhere else, I apologise as I didn't notice it. But I'm curious why I didn't notice it and I only noticed this one.

At any rate, neither of these really answer the request. Do I take it that you have specific reasons why you will not create a new thread for this new release? Is there some benefit that outweighs the negatives I listed that makes it critical to avoid creating a new thread?

Sorry if I'm beating this drum a bit too much, but I'd stop if anyone could please explain the need for keeping threads going that are hundreds of posts long when it's so incredibly easy to just start a new one.

The only reason I can think of is that some might say that it's better to have all information in one place. But if that information's 99% obsolete, I don't think that makes any sense.

The title changes, the thread is marked as having unread messages, and the last message gives you all the details.

On top of that For The Record has its own forum with a lot its aspects discussed in a lot more details, all in separate threads.

And to round it off, as just has been pointed out, the Management Console will give you a message box a new version is out and the core services will even e-mail you personally!

    Where is the problem?

The main reason for not creating a new thread (apart from the above reasons which makes me even doubt it even makes sense): it's a lot of extra work (layout, all the images,...) and this is free software. So considering I'm not convinced it's needed...

Sorry if I sound a bit harsh but this is real close to splitting hairs if you ask me ;)
