where to start? i had this problems with the core service since 1.3.3 as mentioned in my previous post... tonight when i came back home, the htpc was on although it should sleep... anything happened again, watching tv was not possible cause of the not running core service... reinstalled 4tr a few times hoping to localize the problem... but it got worse. later this night the tv channels were suddenly lost and i had to put them back in to 4tr which finally had driven me crazy cause some of them were not recognized somehow, so theres no epg data and i cannot tune into them in mp... so i decided to uninstall the 1.3.3 version and go back to the working 1.3.2. at this point the sql database seems to be corrupted in anyway... the mmc tells me this with a nice error message; mmc and mp won't show any epg data...
I'm gonna be totally honest with you: I can't explain these problems you have. But you seem to be the only one with such big problems, so I'm not sure where this is coming from. My "quick" guess that is has something to do with your system or setup somehow. Also, all the things you describe as having problems with in 1.3.3 are not really related to any of the changes between 1.3.2 and 1.3.3, another reason I really can't explain why you should have these problems with 1.3.3 and not with 1.3.2.

What I can explain is the troubles you had when you reinstalled 1.3.2, this is simply not possible. Your database has been converted for 1.3.3 and will no longer work with 1.3.2. It's too bad we didn't foresee this and build a check into 1.3.2 to refuse to run or alert you or something, so you are quite correct that this is a usability issue! :( But the problems you got after reinstalling 1.3.2 are no surprise, you really need to restart with a clean, emtpy database then.

4tr is a really nice plugin, i like it very much. if it works it is nearly perfect :D
Thanks, that what we aim for! ;) And luckily for the majority of users it seems to be running to their liking ;)

I'd love to understand what's going wrong on your system... But until that point I fear there's not much we can do about it :(

thx again for the fast support, this is another big plus of your project!

yeah this was also my guess^^ now i know it for sure and this saves me a lot of time the next time i experience some bigger problems :D

Hi there

this is my second attempt at getting 4TR up and running and it's not going as I had hoped  but I'm sure it's user error on my part...

Some info for you: using MP 1.0.0.0 + TVServer, DVB-S EPG, MCE2005, Microsoft SQL-Express. Operating system is installed on C drive, Timeshift folder is on D drive and TVRecordings folder is on F Drive. The TVRecordings folder has been set up for sharing as per instructions, BEFORE installing 4TR.

Here are the problems so far:

1. Is it OK to have my recording folder on a different drive to 4TR ? I can't (and don't want to) record to my C drive as it has been partitioned to be too small to record on, which makes it quicker to do "Ghost" copies of. When I open TVServer config to enable the 4TR plugin I get the message:" You must set up a share with full permissions... " even though I've already done that (right?). In the TVServer plugin info I can see that the Timeshift folder has been "found" (although the text is in red) but the recording folder is saying \\HTPC\Recordings - shouldn't it say F:\TVRecordings?

2. How long should I allow for the importation of EPG data from the DVB-S source (for 9 channels)? I could only give it 20 minutes yesterday before I had to rollback to my working version of MP in order to allow scheduled recordings to record and avoid a night of harassment from my wife! :D and in that time nothing showed up in the Guide.

3. IM-Bot; nothing was running after installing 4TR - do I need to download Windows Messenger or something?

That's it for now - I can't really progress until I get 1 & 2 sorted out anyway (I'm not too worried about 3)

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

1) In the TVServer plugin -> Channels tab:
a) Some channels are duplicated even though I dont have them in my channel list in TVServer.
b) Some channels are not linked. If I click the "Edit Channel Link" button, the subsequent dialog does not show channels in the pane "MediaPortal Channel". So I am unable to set a link to a channel.
And are there no channel groups listed in that dialog? Perhaps an empty group is selected on top?

Also, realize that the channels shown in the Channels tab are the channels that are defined in For The Record (which you can then link to MP). So if you see doubles there, that means you should check the channels through the Management Console and clean them out there. Perhaps you imported channels from two different sources and created doubles that way?
I could not map the channels (problem described in (b) above) because I had not selected a group in the top pane  Since I had to create a link for quite a few channels this way, it would be nice if both the top pane (which contains MP group names) and the bottom pane (which contains MP channels for the selected group) remember the last selected group/channel name.

Why do you worry about the folder shown in green, and in fact ignore the error on the folder in red? ;) Your recordings folder is set up perfectly, simply do the same for your timeshifting folder.

For The Record can optionally play back live TV from clients over the UNC path instead of rtsp, so that's why the timeshifting folder needs to be shared too.

Do ou have both the DVB-EPG syncing and auto-create channels checkboxes turned on?

Restarting TvService should more or less immediately start syncing, so you should see channels appear very quickly. Just make sure both the settings above are turned on and saved correctly.

You don't really see the IM-Bot after installation (there's a new Windows service you'll notice to be running). You need to use Windows Live messenger yourself. For The Record will then appear as one of your contacts, and you can chat with it from anywhere in the world.

6 Groups, the biggest group has all channels but is usually not used
the group I use most has about 40-50 channels
the smallest group has 8 channels (doesnt make a difference btw)
That simply doesn't make sense. My smallest group appears blindingly fast, and even my largest group appears very fast.

So I'm starting to wonder if has something to do with the logos and how our plugin caches these in the system's TEMP directory. Do you have something special running that could mess with your temp folder (some funky virus scanner for example)?

Can you check if the live TV pannel in the Management Console is just as slow, or much faster when switching between groups there?

Thanks for the quick feedback :) ForTheRecord is now up and running! :D :D Now that I've got it working on my system I'll be able to support it fully in the next release of the Bleazle skin.

Just one question, I tried running the ForTheRecord MP Recordings Importer but it doesn't seem to work with this version (1.3.3.1) of 4TR - is that right or have I done something wrong? or is there another way to import recorded TV into the 4TR database?

EDIT: Oops - one more question - is there supposed to be a miniguide in 4TR? If there is how do I view it?

Cheers

Dave

You don't need to use the ForTheRecord MP Recordings Importer anymore as FTR now has a built in importer that is much more powerful, load up the FTR management console, go to 'Recorded Programs', then click on the 'Import/Synchronize' button and follow the steps in the wizard to import your existing recordings.
