When the new MediaPortal version will be released I want to switch to 4TR for my recordings.
But I still have one question:
Can I use the DVB EPG info for 4TR? At the moment my TV guide is completely filled with information from the DVB-C stream. It is taken care of by my tv provider and it works great.
So I hope I can use the same DVB info in 4TR and not having to swich to a webfilled tv guide or something...

I've only just (last couple of days) started using FTR, and I only use the DVB EPG. I'm still playing but here's what I'm currently "stuck" on :

    1. No radio
    2. When I choose a channel to watch within MP, MP locks up
    3. Channel mapping confusing

I'm not saying any of these aren't fixable just that I'm still investigating. No. 2 might be due to the SVN I'm on.

The radio part is not working in the current version. It should be in the next major release 1.4.0.0 and a new mystery feature as well:D

    1. No radio
As gingertom pointed out we're going to add "real" radio support to 1.4, but for now you can manually create a "TV" channel and link it to the radio channel. It will give you a black screen, but the radio will actually play. And you can schedule recordings on that channel too of course.

    2. When I choose a channel to watch within MP, MP locks up
I'd suggest you try to make sure everything works fine with your MP installation on its own, and then try everything with For The Record.

    3. Channel mapping confusing
We tried to explain this in the installation manual, check out section 8.1 "A word about channels" on page 22. And if it's not clear please let us know how we can improve this explanation :)

It will still work with 4TR.
The DVB guide is still collected from the DVB stream into the same DB.
But 4TR creates its own DB based on the one from MP.

Let's not overhype the mystery feature, we think it will be a nice extra, but it won't be anything major like radio support :)

I really would like the advanced scheduling capabilities of 4tr and management by web interface, which I know is already available. However, I still want to use the original TVPlugin to watch Live TV and playback Recorded TV programs. Can 4tr be setup to record programs (via the webinterface) and then these recordings automatically appear in the 'Recorded TV' section of the MediaPortal TV plugin?

    :D for your time.

You could write a small tool to make something like this happen using our API available under the Development SDK section here:

    Download | For The Record

Not sure why you want this though, you're sure to get into trouble if you start scheduling stuff from the standard TV plugin's user interface. It will conflict with For The Record's recording schedules, in fact those schedules in MP will be removed by our plugin just to avoid these problems. Which will lead to very confusing results from a user's point of view...

Thanks for the quick response dvdfreak.

The only real reason I can see why I don't want the 4tr plugin to completely replace the standard tv plugin is skin support. For example, I use StreamedMP and I really like the way Live TV is displayed in this skin, it currently has a very high WAF! Unfortunately the 4tr support in this skin is minimal (i.e. not updated very often). I'm going to install 4tr tonight and see how complete (and seamless) the transition could be.

I use StreamedMP with FTR too, and I think it is working quite nice. When StreamedMP was first released the FTR support was very bad, making it almost unusable, but now it is working quite good.
