Hi,

I'm new to this software and its fantastic! Congrats to all those involved.

I have one problem at the moment. When playing music and I press x to go to full screen visualisation the frame rate is very very slow and it even looks a bit zoomed in. Playing in the little window (alternating with album art) looks ok.

This only happens in media portal. When in windows media player the fullscreen visualisation looks great and frame rates look very quick.

MP 0.2 RC4
WM10
.net V2.0
Win XP SP1
DX9.0c

Latest FX5200 graphics card drivers are installed.

Cheers,
Colin

    Hi,
You should upgrade your windows to SP2.

    These are the MediaPortal requirements

    It works very good here...

    Hi,

    Thanks for prompt reply!

Are you sure that will make it work? Why does it work ok in windows Media Player fullscreen? I wasn't sure that upgrading to SP2 will solve the issue as media player is fine. Can anyone actually confirm that this would solve it?

    Cheers,
    Colin

What is your reason for not upgrading to SP2? If it was new, I would understand. It came out in AUG of 2004. It's been around for a LONG time.

I have installed MP on my other machine. Its running bang up to date SP2 with all windows updates. It has a newish ATI graphics card (machine above had nvidia) and both machines are having the same problem. I don't think its SP2 related or machine related. Please remember that windows media player plays full screen visualisations very well on both machines. I therefore seem to think its a problem with Media Portal. Strange problem this, especially if you guys are not having any problems with visualisations in full screen.......

    Hi

This is a known issue with the visualizations. It has something to do with no being rendered full screen and its scaling or something. Anyway you can try lowering your resolution to get better response from it as it generally runs slow because it is maxing CPU.

As far as i know this is not going to be fixed anytime soon, you can check the Music thread which i think has an explanation but it is very long now https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/viewtopic.php?t=11535

Here's the short answer regarding fullscreen visualizations: many visualization plugins automatically switch to a different resolution when they are displayed in fullscreen mode. Since many users use MP with TV monitors that can only sync to a specific resolution, have the viz plugin swtich display resolution is a bad thing. At best it would put the TV monitor in a state uncapable of displaying an image. At worst, it could damage the monitor. So, for the time being we're stuck with scaled visualizations.

I'm currently exploring a native MP audio player that would have native visualization support.

    Hi Steve,

Many thanks for your reply! I was beginning to think I was going insane ;0)

Would it be possible to include an option to allow fullscreen vis without scaling? I am sure many others would find this very handy. I've read that some get stuck on fullscreen anyway, due to the CPU being at 100% and not registering key presses. This is equally as bag as being stuck at the wrong resolution and not havnig a display. Also, some plugins in media player will allow you to choose what resolution to use in fullscreen, so maybe those that would have problems can set the correct resolution there before hand.

I would love to have decent fullscreen visualisations like in win media player. Please include an option for this.....

    KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK!!!!

I think someone has written a patch to allow "true fullscreen"? see link below:

    http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=107397&atid=647927

However, being a "Portal Numpty" I have no idea how to update my version of MP with this "fix". Could anyone help me to do this? At the risk of sounding stupid, does it have to be compiled and then output to MP program files? If so, does this "fix" only change a few files? If it does could someone patch a version of Mp and send me the updated files? Is this even possible? Or am I talking rubbish?

    Heeeellppppp....

    Cheers,
    Colin

the patches listed there, are assigned by the project "managers" and then compiled with the core program

this happens unless the patch doesn't work as expected (or for some other reasons)

it's nothing you will need to do from the user stand point
