    moved the client into the living room.. had to remove it. I was getting some feedback/grounding rumble through my subwoofer, every time the HDD was accessed. and almost constantly when MP was running, except when it changed screens or began playing media, then the rumble came back during playing. ... gotta track that down or this will never work for what I wanted.

    :(

    Hey 2bit, ground loops will drive you insane!

    Something you might want to try is a ground line between the pc and the amp. I'm guessing your using the analog out from the pc? you may need a discreet sound card as a good card will but the noise floor well below what an amp/speaker can play.

    Good luck.

    Yep, the strategies for solving grounding issues with audio are:
    1. Use the same ground everywhere (ie. in your case, plug the PC and amp into the same circuit/socket, or somehow link the ground pins as Pog suggested).
    2. Use balanced connections with a ground pin (ie. XLR or similar, probably not possible in your case).
    3. Lift/disconnect the ground of either the amp or the PC.
    [edit:
    Forgot one!
    4. Use an isolating transformer.
    ]

    The third one is not recommended unless you know what you are doing. Could lead to bad stuff. Do not try unless you know the potential consequences.

    This won't necessarily help. The grounding of anything in the PC will be tied to the ground that the PC PSU is connected to. Unless that PSU ground is at the same potential (Voltage) as the amp, the hum will persist.
