For the past 4 months I have been using this very common remote found all over the world for under $10. I wanted to share the remote and its mapping for the keyboardremoteinput plugin that will make it essentially plug and play. And the mouse function is built into the Remote for instant mouse use.

The remote is made in China but sold throughout the world under different model numbers. PHX01RN or W-01RN to name a few. If you just want a good working remote that will do all essential functions as well as a plethora of additional ones then this is an awesome deal. Here is a link from one US seller for $9.00, but many more can be found on Ebay from AU, US, UK, CA and Asian retailers.

Remote Link for 11$ in the US

Remote Link for 8$ ships from China

As you can see it comes with a USB IR receiver that has quite good range. I now currently use 4 of these remotes on all my MP clients.

Attached I have included the mappings for the remote to be used with the keyboardinput plugin. Just extract the Keyboard.xml file to your /Program Data/Team Mediaportal/MediaPortal/InputDevicesMappings/ folder after you have installed the plugin. Here also is a few notes on the mappings.

The Asterisk (*) is mapped for Aspect Ratio
The "i" button is mapped to Info and the Pound (#) is mapped to Menu for dual effect
The Yellow "Email" button is mapped to "Recorded TV" the Green "www" button I left set to "WebBrower"

Everything else is set as it should be.

EDIT: 9$ link got old and needed to be replaced. New link is for the same remote but for 15$. This remote can be found on EBay for around 8$, but as you know links go dead after the timer has expired so no point in using ebay as a link.

EDIT: This link is for two of the remotes for 15$, but it ships from China so it takes 10 days.

I also have this remote and it seems to work well - although the when watching TV the channel change buttons change the program Group and not the individual channels of the group being watched. In my case it changes between the groups "Terrestrial Channels", "Satellite Channels" and "Most Watched". Any ideas how to get it to change the actual channel??

Also how do I map the "Media Centre" button to open MP and not Win Media Centre??

    Many thanks!

By using the keyboardinput plugin you can use my mappings and then go into the plugin config and make two new buttons, name them, point the mouse to record that button, then tell it "while watching tv" to "Channel Up" and "Channel Down"

As for the big Media Center button I have not found out how to make it pull up MP, but by ticking the option in MP Config to Additional 3rd Party Checks and disable the service then the button wont pull up MCE.

Thanks for that Lyfesaver... I did play about with your mappings and the keyboard input, but didn't really know enough about it to understand what I was doing.

I'll have a play later and report back.

If I can get this working fully I will most likely get a couple more of these remotes so the whole server/client setup uses the same controller - easier for the GF to understand.

I didn't realise that you use the remote whilst configuring the input. Added the additional buttons as you suggested and it works like a charm - the channels now go up and down whilst watching TV...brilliant!!
    :D

One thing I have noticed is that I have to press the green button (above the numbers) in order for the direction buttons on the remote to work with MP - If I don't it works as a mouse instead - the green button seems to toggle between the two states.

Does your remote do the same??

    Thanks!

For me it is the Blue button (farthest right of the color buttons) and it says "Toggle" on it. Does not matter if u are in MP or not, if u toggle the remote to work as a mouse then arrows will move mouse with Back and Info/More being the left and right mouse buttons.

Thanks for that Lyfesaver (you are correct, it is the blue button, not the green one ). I didn't know if there was something simple that I was missing.

I am really pleased with this now... getting this remote control working properly solves part of the "whole house" MP setup I am working on. Certainly much easier to set up than the iMon PAD remote I use on the MP server!
