You have to change the "Owner" of the file (right click - property's - ...) to your user name
and after that you are able to change the permissions to "Full access".

    ** EDIT **
    Never mind, got it :)

probably because it is 'in use'. Try to use this to unregister first:
go to Start > RUN (for xp) and type
    regsvr32 /u c:\windows\system32\evr.dll

    than overwrite it.

    reregister with:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\evr.dll

In vista or win7 go to task manager > File > New Task (run)

That's not working for me either :(
When i add my username and give full control, it gives back the same error (unable to save permission changes on evr.dll Access is denied).

If you don't have permissions to replace the files then follow the instructions here on taking over file permissions in Vista: Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums

When patching the OS with older version or EVR.DLL please remember that you shouldn't be reporting any errors / bugs in MediaPortal as there is lot of known issues fixed in later EVR.DLLs.

FIX: Windows Media Player crashes when you play a video for a long time on a Windows Vista-based computer
The enhanced video renderer (EVR) sends the EC_DISPLAY_CHANGED event when you play a video stream in Windows Vista
FIX: The video application crashes when you play a video if five or more monitors are attached to the computer
You may experience poor video quality when you use interlaced mode on a Windows Vista-based computer

(And who knowns how many different unkown errors have been fixed, i.e. MS isn't releasing a knowledge article on every single fix. They are the minority).

So, no bug reports with the system that have older EVR.DLL in use.

What comes to the ATI colorspace issue, please try to raise some noice on ATI / MS direction as the bug clearly is outside MP / MPC-HC codebase as both applications are affected.

Just FYI... this issue also shows up in SageTV with EVR enabled. So, it looks like it is an ATI/MS issue.

I am running the latest Windows7, so unfortunately it atill hasn't been resolved yet on the microsoft side.

Well, hard to tell ATI they did something wrong if there isn't anything wrong outside MP :(
And off course the replacement evr.dll was just for testing purposes and is replaced by it's original.

Then why some users are reporting that MPC-HC with Custom EVR renderer code and Sage TV are affected also?

I haven't got a clue at all. I can't reproduce that error, but then there are a LOTT of SVN versions of MPC-HC (i'm using latest stable) and i know that SAF Codec package rolled back to MPC-HC 1043 because of issues, so maybe that's why they're getting problems? or they've calibrated their system incorrect? Who knows...

I know for sure my system is calibrated 100% and i'm only getting the 'grey overlay' in MediaPortal.

maybe i'll put the 2600XT back in tomorrow, test that once more and when that gives correct levels, i'll leave that in for the time being (and then try to fix other issues with that card...)
