I am using HDMI connection from my PC to my Onkyo 875 Amp using the DVI>HDMI dongle.

In CCC, do you see HDMI or DVI conection?

If HDMI, there are some pixel format options wich afects gray to black.

Yes it is listed as a HDMI connection with the pixel format options.

As standard I have it set to YBrCr 4:4:4 but I have tried all the options but its does not seem to affect EVR within Media-Portal.

With YBrCr 4:4:4 selected and I open the same media file in MPC-HC with EVR (not custom presenter) the black levels are fine.

If I recall with 9.5 drivers installed I dont think the different pixel formats made any difference to the black levels in MPC-HC so maybe this feature doesn't work anymore in the new drivers?

So i have only one advice for you and i think you will not like it.
As you can notice, MP configuration gives you message, that using EVR is still experimental, so there can be problems (and they actualy are there).
EVR didnt provide you with any kind of quality increase, smoother video playback, etc.
So my advice is to use XP and WMR9 like most of MP comunity.

Out of interest, why is EVR still experimental? Does the internal player connect to filters and renderers in a different way to other players such as MPC/MPC-HC.

I think I will use VMR9 in Vista for the time being but I will still try and identify where the problem lies as I have had EVR working fine with media-portal only a couple of weeks ago in both XP and Vista.

Actually it is only experimental on XP, not in Vista (I guess the config should be updated to reflect the situation...).

VMR9 is not supported by the team under Vista, it has some short comings compared to EVR under DirectX9Ex. So, it is recommended to use EVR under Vista (dunno why it doesn't work for you, maybe old GPU and as VMR9 works as software mode under Vista that could explain it).

I think the problem lies with the ATI Drivers, Vista SP2 or Media-Portal 1.0.2 or a combination of the three. Once I pinpoint the issue I'll be sure to post back.

Still think it's ATI, my nvidia card works fine with the other 2, ie Vista and MP1.0.2 :)

I have just gone down through the catalyst drivers from Catalyst 9.5 > 8.12.

It looks like 8.12 and 9.1 work fine and all present drivers after 9.1 don't work correctly. I think the first time I tried the 9.1 drivers I did no uninstall the previous ones correctly.

Now my next task is to get rid of the weird blocking effects I noticed whilst testing some of my mkv files.

Yes, you're in exactly the same boat as me!

I used HDMI, I stipulate Full RGB, but using ATI CCC drivers > 9.1, the Mediaportal internal player is dumbing down the colour output.

Whether this is down to ATI or Mediaportal, I don't know, but in the end I gave up and ran with CCC 9.1

However, I am not sure this driver is quite as stable as some of the newer ones and I would love to update, but can't live with this 'grey' problem.

If I find any solution to using a current ATI driver successfully, I too will post for the benefit of others.

If with other players, which are also using DXVA the color space is correct, doesn't that mean, that the problem is in MP?
