    Again is there no setting in the CCC, that forces use of ATI colour space to be used by players, not there own.

    To me this is a basic function, so cannot see why ATI may not have included :confused:

    Yes, i think there is an option to let ATI use the colour spaces or the application. I'll go test that later on and report back if that might fix the blacklevels & EVR.
    And off course all color settings & pixel format settings are there also.

    Just my '10 pence' worth, but I messed about with the Pixel format. The gray problem in Mediaportal overrides what is selected in here - or at least it did in my instance.

    Haven't messed about with the other 2 settings in the screenshots though!

    I just disabled "Use application settings" from the first screenshot and re-activated "ATI color controls" from 3rd screenshot and still i get grey blacks when enabling EVR. With VMR9 all looks good.

    Hi Homey

    That's weird, because I make visual change in the Nvidia control panel and they are passed on everywhere.

    Last resort, what happens if you uninstall the CCC, this should not stop the card from working, just not influence the drivers.

    Thanks for checking this out btw, would be nice to get to the bottom of why this is happening.

    In my first days after building the HTPC i only installed drivers, but i just need the CCC to configure those drivers to fit my needs, so using only the driver wouldn't be an option since lots of important settings are done by the CCC, but i'll see what happens if i only install the driver and switch between VMR9 & EVR.

    I too would like to get to the bottom of this, because MediaPortal can be as nice and as sweet as it is with all the fanart and amazing plugins, but if the basic picturequality lags from the start, it all looks bad :(

    I already noticed that some TV channels (which is was getting sick of because of the white 'mist' over the picture) have a way better PQ already since i switched back to VMR9.

    ** EDIT **

    Just uninstalled CCC, tried both VMR9 and EVR. Still the same issue :(
    VMR9 --> black = black
    EVR --> black = grey

    ** EDIT 2 **

    When i play the movie with the external MPC-HC player, and set the renderer to VMR9, i don't get any picture. With EVR enabled in external MPC-HC i do get a correct picture with correct blacks.

    Is there a way to change settings for the EVR renderer within MediaPortal besides the few options in MP config?
    I've got a feeling that EVR output might be set to PC-levels (0-255) which could explain the crush.

    Disable the AMD External Events Utility service!!!

    When I upgraded from Catalyst 9.1 to 9.5 I was having all kinds of problems with my HDMI connection. Everytime I would turn my AVR or TV on the CCC would reset and Pixel Format would go back to PC Standard instead of Studio. All of those issues went away after I disabled that service!

    Here's what I recommend:
    - Use EVR with Aero enabled
    - Leave all the color settings to default in CCC
    - Set Pixel Format in CCC to "RGB 4:4:4 Studio Limited"
    - Don't touch any of the video levels in your decoders, leave them at their default values
    - I recommend MPC Video Decoder for H.264/AVC/VC-1 high-definition video

    This is how I have it set up and I have absolutely no issues with black levels.

    All my settings are exactly the same as yours.
    Disabled the service but didn't change anything. Getting pretty :mad: of it now so i think i'll go for a fresh install tomorrow and see if that changes anything. :rolleyes:

    I was having the exact same problem a few weeks ago with MP 1.0.2 - Vista x64 + EVR - ATI 4850 .....black crush on every Catalyst release after 9.1, tried everything possible but no dice.

    So i have just adjusted to the fact that until (if ever) it's sorted i'll be sticking with 9.1 or i buy an Nvidia card -> not likely.

    Of course you can use ffdshow to keep it in the proper colour space but i like to use DXVA when at all possible as i think this gives the best picture so that is still a compromise.
