GUI responsiveness (2 Viewers)

Hi! When boosting up MediaPortal, and navigating around, the menus are totally ok, but you can actually see some stuttering when changing line on the main screen, when selecting an item and the home screen is "zoomed out".

BUT, if I start "My TV" (TVE3), and then goes back to home screen (leaving the TV in a little square in the lower left corner), then suddenly the GUI is SOOOOO much smoother!

No stuttering at all! Now how can this be? I have got a quite nice dual core CPU, and a Nvidia 8600M GS graphics card, and I belive they should be able to handle the main UI without problems. But as said, when the TV-module is turned on, it gets sooo much smoother. Could it be that DXVA is only activated when playing TV or something?

In that post the problems seems to be the other way around,... they get in trouble after launching MyTV, I get better performance when running MyTV,...

Start MP -> GUI response good
Start TV -> GUI response good
Minimise TV -> GUI response good
Stop TV -> GUI response bad
Start TV -> GUI response good
Minimise TV -> GUI response good
Stop TV -> GUI response bad


So GUI response is good until you start, then stop, live (or recorded) TV, after that GUI response is bad until you either start watching TV again or restart MP.

Is your GUI response OK when you first startup MP?

No, it's bad when I start it up, but as soon as I start the TV Client, it gets much better. But when I stop the TV Client again, then it is just like it was when starting MP.

Playing movies does not seem to affect this. It is only the TV Client that gives this UI performance boost while it is active,...

Of course the accelerated VMR9 renderer might be a difference. However please use "!" to get meaningful stats about what is "SOOOO" slow.

Maybe you just want to increase MP's framerate?
I am just testing a code improvement so MP will obey the FPS-value stricter...

Never knew about "!"

Here a test I run....

Start MP - FPS=25
Press and hold the down arrow to scroll through the home menu - FPS=25
Start live TV or recorded TV - FPS=25
Stop live TV or recorded TV
Press and hold the down arrow to scroll through the home menu - FPS=7<->12
Start live TV or recorded TV - FPS=25
Stop live TV or recorded TV
Press and hold the down arrow to scroll through the home menu - FPS=7<->12

FPS then stays low until either I start watching live or recorded TV again or I restart MP.

This only happens when using VMR9, when I use EVR (I have XP & .NET3 rather than Vista) the FPS stays at 25.

Can you change MP's framerate in config? I couldn't see any framerate setting (except for music viz).

Wow, the "!"-feature was really cool! Here are my findings:

Start MP - FPS = 25
Press and hold the down arrow to scroll through the home menu - FPS = 25
Start live TV or recorded TV - FPS = 50
Stop live TV or recorded TV
Press and hold the down arrow to scroll through the home menu - FPS = 25
Start live TV or recorded TV - FPS = 25
Stop live TV or recorded TV
Press and hold the down arrow to scroll through the home menu - FPS = 25

So the difference I see is the one between 25 and 50 FPS,...

If I change the GUI FPS in mediaportal.xml to 50, I don't get any difference! But I havn't had time to test the build you have done! Will test it as soon as I have some more time!

Just use the settings plugin. It's a bit "hidden" in "Scroll settings" but this setting is directly applied then.
