I don't know how to create a patch with GIT. It needs me to commit first, and I can't commit, because I can't branch. Endless loop

Success with the forking (my DNS blocked a port or something??).
Now I just need to download the 2 GB data and commit my own 8 lines of changes. Then I should be able to create a patch or even a branch. Luckily I have a 15 Mbit fibre-connection, so rolling along with 1.95 MB/sec
