Has ANYONE gotten TV running without probs? (1 Viewer)

It's a evil world we live - we dont make the rules.
Digital stuff has it nags I guess. (sometimes I also do miss the old VCR analogue days)
But in order to achieve the best we have to obey the rules, even though they might not always make sense.

This was only meant as a test.
as I said, u need to isolate the problem. Is it the HTPC or the TV ?
If only all TV's would act like PC display devices, then there would be fewer problems.
But the sad fact of the matter is they dont
Pixelmapping and refresh rates supported by the TV are indeed very important.
One of the more important things in a HTPC setup is the TV. also One of the hardest things to get "right".

your TV should be able to tell u the input resolution and refresh rate.
did u try and update the firmware in ur TV ? just for kicks?

update firmware in my tv.. hmmmm.. Never thought of that one really. Well I'm at work right now but once I get home this afternoon I'll try out the 50hz on pc monitor first and after that I'll check if there are FW updates for the TV.

Well, you have three options:
a) Feed a 720p/1080i signal to your TV and ignore that the desktop doesn't show. Picture quality will be bloody good anyways when watching TV and DVDs.
b) Continue using your TV at 60Hz
c) Buy a new TV or try to get a new firmware to your existing one

Your STB is not sending a 1024x768 signal but a standard PAL signal, it's not pixelmapped.

Latest drivers in not always the best one. Try older ones also (thats my experience for Nvidia cards).

ok, update.

I pretty much gave up on trying to get the picture quality better or at least as good as my STB. I tried 720p (1280x768@50hz) as custom resolution and adjusted the loss of desktop space with the screen calibration in mediaportal settings. It looks way worse than what I had with pixelmapped 1024x768@60hz. I also tried other custom resolutions such as 720x576@50 and 1920x1080@50 and most look ridiculously horrible.

I guess I'll just have to accept the fact that picture quality on my STB is simply slightly better than on my HTPC.

Then stability-wise. I started using the new tsreader filter and must say that the stability has improved a lot. I was able to switch channels without much hastle. I only had like 1 crash of mediaportal (crashed to the desktop) after watching tv for like 2 hours or so. But other than that the new tsreader filter does wonders for my stability issues.

Btw, does anyone use powerstrip and is it any good in combination with mediaportal ? Does it differ much from custom resolution settings in nvidia's drivers?

It doesn't sound like you took the time to hook up a valid PC display device like a monitor to test things?

u r claiming that watching stuff (dvb tv) with MP on a regular monitor looks as crappy as on your bigger htpc TV ?

then I guess it's ur htpc that is incorrectly configured in some sense.
