A/V sync drift

sjeffrey, @Wile E. --

I think you guys know a little about my setup now ;-) I also updated My System information. I left the tv on over night and still have an a/v sync drift issue. Do you guys not experience this? I'm not sure how this happens except to guess that the video frames are being dropped while audio keeps up. On that note, do you guys see frames being dropped? With dxva in play now I see very few dropped frames (as a sample, 0.6% dropped after about 15 minutes). Now, I assume that a dropped video frame does not affect (or discard) the audio presented during that frame time (I never hear gaps in the audio; would I be able to during such a small time frame?)

Could this simply be due to my use of onboard HD3200 video? My 5450 should be here today.

hello,

new MediaPortal user here, just installed 1.2 beta yesterday, and have run into a couple of problems that hopefully you guys can help with.

1) I'm trying to set up tv server, but when I hit "preview" I only get a static image. Is this normal? Also, no sound. I'm using component cables, and the rca for sound.
2) Frequently, I get "Preview failed:NoPmtFound", and it doesn't work.
3) In MediaPortal, I have to be careful not to bring up the context menu when watching tv or else the whole program becomes unresponsive to input (mouse and keyboard), although the picture still works. Only way to exit is to bring up task manager and kill the MediaPortal process.

Is this Colossus or HD-PVR?
1. I'm not sure analog cards support preview, I haven't really tried that myself really.
2. It could be that you have a codec issue which fails on the preview and then you get NoPmtError.
3. What codecs are you using? How the CPU usage? Is it the same issue when watching video (not live tv)?

When ever you get an error it's a good idea to restart TVServer to make sure everything is "fresh"
Some older HD-PVRs are known to require a power cycle once in a while. If you do power cycle, make sure to also restart TVServer service.

AFAIK the HD3200 should be able to do DXVA but since you said the CPU usage was high then I'm guessing this is going to cause problems for you all over the place...
The drift issue, you have to keep in mind you are asking the guys that used to pause live tv every 15 minutes or so for 2 seconds just to get things to stop stuttering :) I haven't tried live tv over night but I suspect that things might have drifted a little bit by then. I'm sure we already address this but you are STB is not set to do Digital Dolby correct? With DD then for sure I would experience drifting.

Next time I watch some live tv I'll take a look at the frames dropped and report back.
I'll also double check which codecs are in use (I tried so many codec combos that I know things work well enough now just not which codecs I landed on to get there:oops:)

Hi, thanks for your help. I have the Colossus. Based on your hint I checked the codecs, and I had "MPC - MPA Decoder Filter" for MPEG / AC3 audio decoder. I changed this to ffdshow Audio Decoder and my problem was solved.

I have DirecTV, and have an external program to control my set top box through SHEF IP control, so my next step is to figure out how to get channel changing working by calling an external program, and then, lastly, getting guide data. Eagerly awaiting WileECoyote's guide ;)

I have Directv H21-200 and I send it url's via curl to change channels. To do this from MP you need to install IR Server Suite to get the "TV3 Blaster Plugin for IR Server". In installs as a TVE plugin so configure it from the TV Configuration app. On the main page of the plugin configuration you'll see a "STB Setup" button. Click that an setup your command to change channels as a "PreChange" command on the hvpvr crossbar tab. My channel change command is a single line that invokes curl with the Directv url and the channel number as a parameter.

Future: I may change the TV plugin in the 1.3 time frame to eliminate the need for the IR Server Suite since I only need this plugin piece. I don't think its unreasonable to ask the TV plugin to issue a simple command line program to change channels (without the burden of a full function plugin :)

Hi, I can't seem to find a version of IRSS with TV3 Blaster Plugin that is compatible with 1.2 beta. Is there such a version available? thanks.

Forum search tool is pretty good ;-)

https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/ir-server-suite-irss-165/imon-irss-version-no-official-version-68914/index22.html#post729212

I tried that version, but it has no tv3 blaster plugin :( (as per the first post: ATTENTION: my version has NOT the TvServer blast part in it - if you need tv server blast you must use the official release).

edit: and official version only supports 1.1, and in 1.2 is listed under "incompatible plugins".

Yeah. Not good. I'll see if I can find who ever needs to update the thing to 1.2. I had to build it myself... Keep checking the IRSS threads; it's off topic in this thread. Thx.

Hello everyone, I made an update of MP 1.1.3 to 1.2 and everything went very well. I already had an HD-PVR and I thought that this was not a viable long term because my HD-PVR was more or less stable with MP 1.1.3. So I opted for this colossus that I installed in my PC along with the update 1.2 of MP. I must say wow! In comparing my HD-PVR, the colossus is much faster to start and stop, even changing the channel takes 2 seconds compared to 12 with my HD-PVR and MP 1.1.3.

I just have some problems with the colossus.

1 - I have the SPDIF issue (like WileE had), changes itself to AAC (RCA) ( but works in showbiz )
3 - I am limited to 8 Mbps in showbiz, as soon as I change it, it resets to 8 Mbps automatically.

    Colossus is GREAT !

    Thanks for your help.

I had reported, earlier, that installing XBMC had apparently screwed up my systems ability to play back blu-ray disks. This was not the case. In fact, it turns out that not all blu-ray disks use the same format - a possibility that hadn't occurred to me (nubie...). My first one, Blade Runner, uses 'VC-1' - which my computer has no difficulty playing back in spectacular fashion. The second one, Avatar, uses 'MPEG-4 AVC' - which my computer has no knowledge of whatsoever. Yet.

This was the reason that it wouldn't play back. It played Blade Runner before I installed XBMC and after I installed it it wouldn't play Avatar. My subsequent conclusion that those facts were serially related, turns out to be an example of post hoc ergo propter hoc - a logical fallacy. In reality, it had nothing to do with XBMC.

Just didn't want to leave that out there.
