Actually, I still haven't figured out why:
1. I need to open TV setup at least once after restarting my computer in order to start TVService.
2. MP TV plugin shows images only the first time I use it after a computer restart (if I close and reopen MP, I can't get any channel)
3. The TV plugin always changes my channel to channel 7 when I click on the "TV On" button.
4. It seems that the TVServer hangs up with a message "program/channel not found" right at the moment when my set-top box is tuning to channel 7.

I attach a newer version of my logfiles, in case it would be helpful.

Thanks

I don't have any help to offer other than there is something really screwy and not-normal you've got going on there. Sounds like it didn't install properly or something. Have you tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling?

    Hi again

To be honest I'm starting to agree with elconejito. Some brief comments:

Does VLC play the file with audio?

The buffered video does not play any sound in Windows Media Player (it doesn't play anything in VLC).
I think that is a pretty positive sign that audio is not being received from your STB. Is your PC connected to a receiver?

I did change the TVlibrary.dll. At first, I did not notice any significant improvement of the delay to get TV. I hadn't to much time to make testings today, though.
To be honest I don't see any improvement in these logs either. This *may* be related to the audio problem. Just for the sake of experimentation, what happens if you connect RCA *and* S/PDIF audio at the same time? I vaguely recall somebody mentioning having to do that - could be imagining it too, but worth a quick test if it helps.

By the way, it may be a stupid question, but is there any other way to stop the TV Service, than restart the computer? I have tried with the Windows service manager, but I can't stop it this way, although I am logged in as an administrator.
This is *not* normal. The other ways you can do it are:
    1. In the "manual control" section of TV Server configuration. Click "stop service".
    2. Use task manager to "kill" the tvservice.exe process (not recommended).

ServerBlaster is able to send commands to my set-top box...
So to clarify: the STB *is* changing to different channels on demand?

...but I was not able to check if I could change channels with my remote.
If you're wanting to change channels with the remote then you may want to disable the "select channel by index (non-US)" option -->here<-- in MP configuration.

I haven't tried the IRSS patch for MP1.2.1 either, but if ServerBlaster sends commands, do I need IRSS?
No if ServerBlaster can make the STB change channels then you don't need IRSS. If you do use IRSS though then you must use that patch - that is what I was trying to say.

    1. I need to open TV setup at least once after restarting my computer in order to start TVService.
This is not normal. Is the service set to start automatically (which it should be by default after installation)?

    2. MP TV plugin shows images only the first time I use it after a computer restart (if I close and reopen MP, I can't get any channel)
    Again, not normal.

    3. The TV plugin always changes my channel to channel 7 when I click on the "TV On" button.
MP remembers the last channel you were viewing and will switch to that when you turn TV on without explicitly selecting a channel.

    4. It seems that the TVServer hangs up with a message "program/channel not found" right at the moment when my set-top box is tuning to channel 7.
MP waits up to 20 seconds for the video and audio to arrive from the STB. I doubt the STB takes that long to switch channels. I note that all your channels are named like ### <call sign>. Do the numbers match the channel numbers that you would enter on your remote to change to the corresponding channels on your STB? Example: "781 DXDHD"; the number that the blaster is passing to the STB is 781.

Quick note on the tv-service restart...

it can also be done via command line, so it is possible to make a script that does just what you want...

I'm not at home right now si I can't tell you the exact command needed, but look into something like that:

    NET SERVICE TVSERVER RESTART

    hope this can help!

Hi, I'm a current SageTV user with the r5000-hd moded dish 211 recievers. I've used this setup for about 2 years. Because of the recent buyout of sagetv and the introduction of the colossus capture cards, I have decided to redo my entire setup. I've installed mediaportal on windows server 2008 r2, which is going to be my tv server. I have the latest drivers installed from hauppauge website. The tvserver configuration tool does see my colossus and I'm confused on how to go from there. I have read though the forum, but I'm confused. Do I need to install the patch listed on the first page, or is it not needed for mediaportal v1.2.1? I get an error "The s-video channels could not be detected" when I click the add s-video channels button. I also tried to create a couple channels manually and mapped them to the card. On my mediaportal client, I see the channels under tvguide, but when I select one, I get spinning circle and "unknown error occurred" box appears. I'm totally stuck. Could you please help me out? :D

    Hi jkuch77,

Visit the link MediaPortal Wiki - MediaPortal Wiki for more information on setting up of TV server etc.

The following is a link to an outdated guide on Blasting of IR codes to Set Top Boxes that I wrote over a year ago (which chefkoch has kindly formatted on wiki). It may be of some help to you when it comes to setting up the IR blasting.

    Hi jkuch77,
First of all, this might sound condescending, but I have no idea of your knowledge regarding this so please don't take this the wrong way.

The reason I am telling you this, is that mediaportal on a server 2008 R2 box requires specific updates, components and "patches" to get going. The good news is, I am just finishing testing on a mediaportal install on server 2008 R2 myself and I have to say that I am not having any of those trouble.

I didn't have to install any patches from this thread on the mediaportal side of things.
Just be careful with IRSS, you will require a patch to make it work with MP 1.2.1 .

About your spinning circle and unknown error, this might be related to the specific patches required.
Have you installed BDA support and h.264 and AAC support?

If you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, please visit Convert your Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation! - .
Look into the numbers 16 and 17 to me more specific, but all this page could be of help.
I set my install using that page, and it all seems to be working fine.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Thank You for the reply. I'm not sure what BDA is or if I need it. I will just be using colossus caputure cards in my server setup, no tuner cards, so I don't think I need BDA. Correct me if I am wrong. I don't think I need decoders on the server, because I am only running MP TV server on it. I will be running multiple clients on win7 machines that will connect to the server. Do you have a working colossus card in your server 2008 r2 setup? I'm just trying to get the colossus card to show me video and audio on a test win7 client for now to start with.

I guess my first question is when I open TV server configuration, I get a box that says "Psisdecd.dll may not be registered properly". What does that mean? Could that be affecting my colossus tuner? Maybe that's why I can't scan for S-Video channels on it.

Also, how do I put screen shots in this post?

    Thank you for you help.

I'm correcting you :p From what I understand BDA is the software/hardware interface in windows that is used to talk to analog cards like the colossus. You DO need it. (It's included in Windows 7 but not in Server 2008, that's why we need to install it)

I found this regarding the DLL you are having problem with...

From the Mediaportal requirements page, Required updates section:

    BDA/DVB hotfix
This hotfix is essential for viewing digital TV broadcasts using either analog or digital TV cards. It is already included in roll up 2 of Windows MCE 2005, for Windows XP you have to install it manually. [Updated psisdecd.dll]

    So I'm guessing, BDA .... :p

Also, how do I put screen shots in this post?
    No idea!

And Yes, I do have a working 2008 server R2 / Colossus setup that is working perfectly fine. Just a bit of fine tuning left to do.

It is a good idea to do what you are doing now, making sure the card is working in a supported OS before making the jump.
Installation in windows 7 is pretty much straight forward.

If the problem you are having now are with windows 7, I'm probably not the person that will be able to help you with this.
Maybe someone else will be able to help you if you provide logs.
