Really think the timeshift problem is the clue, can you open both the recording folder and timeshift folder in windows itself, do you get a dialog saying you do not have permission to access this folder.

Maybe try something else that someone found worked for them, create individual timeshift folders for each card, now try and see if things work.

That can't be the problem because he can sometimes timeshift just fine.

And about the option i gave, that is also a reinitialize (without complete service restart)

Think I may have solved it ! (And my timeshifting issue also) :D

Running through the settings last night I noticed a new setting within each card called "Preferred Network Provider"
which is set to Generic by default and says only to change if you have problems scanning, tuning etc.

I changed both my DVB-T to DVB-T and i could no longer recreate the repeating timeshifting issue which was easily recreatable before. I have tried and tried using the same steps as before but it is definately working. It i go back and set them back to generic, the problem comes back straight away

Then i scheduled a recording for the News as before and it is working :)

I will continue to monitor and schedule a few recordings throughout the day to test further but i'm pretty sure this has solved the recording and repeating timeshifting problem also.

Can you confirm what this feature does and whether it is likely to deal with the issues i have been experiencing ?

I'm convinced it is, but just want to check it's not a mixture of coincidence and wishful thinking.

Also logs now don't show locking errors, just one line with lockedonsignal :)

    2010-05-23 08:57:10.584000 [scheduler thread(9)]: dvb: RunGraph
    2010-05-23 08:57:10.955000 [scheduler thread(9)]: dvb: LockedInOnSignal ok
    2010-05-23 08:57:10.955000 [scheduler thread(9)]: subch:0 OnGraphStarted

Could you please also try the "always reset graph on stop" debug option with the generic network provider to see if that helps?

    Hi Rik,

I have tested this with the timshift issue as it is easier and quicker to recreate, but believe it is connected to the recording issue so would expect same results also.

I first set both cards back to "generic" and retested to ensure i was getting the timeshift repeat errors as before.

Then set the option for reset graph on stop as you described

Retested and this also appears to have cured the problem :)

So yes this option also solves the issues i have been experiencing

Haven't tested recording but would assume this will also be fine as i don't get any lockon errors in log.

Not sure which option is better, but i will leave it as you describe with the debug option set and give it a good test
    over the next few days.

Thanks for all your help with this.

Previously (I don't remember when it changed) the DVB-T network provider was always used. Some TV cards however had trouble tuning. Then it was changed to Generic, which fixed the issue for those cards but failed to work for some that the DVB-T setting had previously worked. So this option was added to allow support for all cards. The Generic setting was chosen as a default because based on user reports it seemed to be supported by most TV cards.

    Thanks Arion,

I have had no issues with this till RC3 but don't know what it was set on before, never touched it

But it definitely cures my problem changing it to DVB-T as does Rik's suggestion of "reset graph on stop".

Are the 2 options connected in any way or is this 2 different methods of correcting the same issue ?

Thanks for testing! I am pretty sure now that 0002880: Unable to tune same ATSC channel/subchannel consecutively - MediaPortal Bugtracker broke it. The strange thing is that in it self that is a good fix (which works for a lot of user).

    No worries Rik,

As long as i can work around it using the method you mentioned then it doesn't really matter, especially if the other fix helps more users. And there is now reference for anyone else experiencing the same problem.

Thanks for all your prompt help with solving this issue.

I also have an HVR1300, so I tried to reproduce the issue and can confirm that it happens using Generic network provider but not DVB-T. This in itself is not a bug as many cards work with only one of the settings.

But if it used to work using Generic, then it might be an indication that something is wrong. I need to check it out.
