Hi i have a Hauppauge HVR 4000 and am trying to get MediaPortal TV Server setup in New Zealand,
Tried just the media portal approach and have managed to get that setup for freeview (DVB-S) but not analogue or fm radio. Following the guide here

When attempting to use TV Server it gets to the stage of scanning for channels and then refuses to find any. I am using a custom ini file and modified satellites.xml file provided by another HVR 4000 user in NZ, i don't believe them to be the problem. I have to correct lnb settings for my setup but still no luck tuning

I am using Vista 64bit with latest drivers just released by Hauppauge (only recently released 64bit WHQL drivers for this card) This could be a problem though not sure.

Am using MySql for database.

Hi Hazza - did you ever get tv-server up and running in Vista?
I got the HVR 4000 card last friday and after a frustrating weekend I eventually settled on just using the DVB-S mode in standard Media Portal.
Sadly the limitation there is that I can't use the DVB-T mode to pick up the test Terrestrial Freeview channels.

I tried to setup TV-Server (with SQL Server Express rather than mySQL) and it would crash whenever I tried to scan channels so I didn't even get as far you did.

I did originally have lots of issues with not being able to scan for channels in either DVB-S or DVB-T but it would appear that this was mostly related to the 64bit drivers not installing properly and also all the different DVB software I had installed locking and killing the tuner card.

I did manage to get tv server running but only by using a older version (16534) which apparantly is just before they made major changes to the way the channels are tuned. This version works with dvbs dvbt and analogue which was pleasantly surprising. It is not 100% stable but if you turn of the tv stream before closing or minimizing media portal it won't crash. Due to the hybrid nature of the card you cant use dvb s and dvb t at the same time.

In other words you can't change from a DVB-S channel to a DVB-T channel in the TV client?
Or does it just mean that you can't record DVB-T whilst watching DVB-S like you could with a true dual tuner card?

Might be the last one..."You can't record DVB-T whilst watching DVB-S like you could with a true dual tuner card."
However I seem to recall the DVB-S demod was seperate to the DVB-T one. i.e. DVB-T is shared with Analogue but not DVB-S.

Make sure you setup the card as a hybrid card.

If you set up the card as hybrid as described in wiki here TV-Engine 0.3/config-hybrid - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation
you will be able to change between any channels be it dvb-t to dvb-s or analogue. I am not entirely sure which ones wont work together i havent been able to find this information anywhere. If anyone knows which ones cant be used at the same time that would be appreciated. You can definetly scan in all the channels in both dvb-t and dvb-s i managed to do this for freeview (DVB-S) and auckland trials dvb-t. It is not a true tri-tuner card but you should be able to use 2 of the functions for watching or recording at the same time but not all 3 at once. As i say not sure which ones it is but when i tried to change from dvb-s to dvb-t without setting it up as a hybrid card with the 2 together it would always crash but now it doesnt.

i9 have a HVR-4000 myself and i am sure the hybrid part has all 3 functions (you will be able to use only one function at a time)

I have a HVR-3000 (same as the 4000 but no DVB-S2) I was able to tune in all my channels in version 16534 and then upgrade to the latest. I have since tried manually entering channels but it seems to be a little it an miss if it works.

So if i tune in all the channels then upgrade to the newer version it will keep all the old channels i just probably won't be able to retune.hmm worth a try to see if it fixes some of the bugs in 16534 ( slow channel changes, crashes, refusing to change channel)

hazza97 your original issue relates to TVServer not being able to add the TSWriter filter to the graph.
This is a known 64-bit issue.
