This is just a general issue but I am trying to setup mediaportal to work with a Hauppauge HVR-4000 card and getting a vew small issues. I'm a noob with the program so I figure I'd post these as issues rather than bugs since it might be that I have not set the application up correctly.

I believe that I am using TV-Server 1 RC2 (although there is no version number displayed in the configuration tool so it is hard to determine - it was downloaded a couple of hours ago).

The main issue that I am having is that the "Scan For Radio" option brings up an error message saying "Card does not support radio". The card does.

Other minor issues are (related to the TV Server Config application):
Scanning for channels does not display found channels in list box on scanning pages. Add SVHS/VHS channels does not appear to do anything (because I cant see what channels were found).

After scanning for channels, selecting any option under TV-Channels causing the application to hang (requring the use of task manager end-process). Just found that hitting the red X (top right) causes the application to terminate (but not sure if its saved settings).

The display (UI) does not update when selecting different menu's from the left side (well, the banner at the top does, but the actual panel on the right stays with whatever I had first selected).

Scanning for analog channels does not work (scanning for freeview [dvb-t] does). And I cannot find any way of adding VHF/UHF channels manually by frequency [Mhz]. So it looks like the Analog tuner is not supported.

I am using PowerCinema 5.1 as my reference PVR so I know what I should be getting in regards to channel outputs (I use this to test that the system is installed and working correctly).

Has anyone used this product with the HVR-4000 or am I the first? :D

Specs are: ATI 4870/Haup hvr 4000/Vista SP1

Hi TwoSeven

Welcome to the MediaPortal forums.

I have used a pair of HVR-4000s with the MediaPortal TV Server for over a year.

If you are using TV Server you will go to configure it using start > All Programs > Team MediaPortal > TV Server > TV Server Configuration. It will have been installed as part of the setup process if you said you wanted high definition TV.

I am afraid I have only used the HVR-4000s for DVB-S and then DVB-T (DVB-S before I moved house and DVB-T after). If I want to use both at once I would need to configure the cards as hybrid in TV Server (instructions are in the Wiki). If you do not do that TV Server will think all the tuners on the card are available when it is only one at a time (analogue, DVB-T or DVB-S/S2).

I am sorry I can't answer most of your queries as I haven't used the radio (other than DVB-T) or SVHS/VHS inputs, but if you are looking to use analogue TV on the HVR-4000 with TV Server you need to make sure you have installed SoftMCE_Setup.EXE that comes with the drivers (as it is not installed automatically).

Hi Thanks for your reply.

I have set the card up as hybrid, but alas this hasn't fixed any of the problems. I have decided that the software is too buggy to warrant spending any more time on. Perhaps in another year or so it might be usable. I did manage to get the DvbT working but no analog, radio (still says not supported) or s-video support.

The decision to give up on it was mainly because figuring out the UI in the client (and in the server) was too much of a hassle. Its pretty poor from a UI point of view (mixed contexts, no information architecture, no interaction design, confusing metaphor etc).
