Hauppauge remote (1 Viewer)

I can't get the IR.exe to run, if I start it manually I get an error message "Failed to initialize Infrared Remote Hardware", windows does not report any conflicting or missing drivers. Mediaportal says no problems detected in the hauppauge remote tab. The mediaportal component hcwhelper.exe crashes everytime I exit mediaportal, could this have something to do with my remote not working as it should?

Tried cleaning the system from all hauppauge drivers and apps using hcwclear and then reinstalling the drivers for the nova t-500 and the ir32 but the problem still exists.

Any ideas?

suddenly realised i was on xp when i last tested, even realised no longer had full 4.6b download, give me 15 minutes and i'll see if i can get this to work

Ok, just installed and it worked fine, get the remote icon in systray and MP recognises it as remote.

No editing of files, nothing just went straight in, wondering if it could be language specific (very few choices on ir32 installer), is your vista "Sweden specific", in reality for driver installation should not matter, but stranger things have been known.

Also did you run the installer as administrator.

Does it create a start menu folder with start\stop ir icons inside.

My vista x64 is in swedish, yes. As for the driver I just realized that it is detected as Nova TD but is in fact a nova t-500, don't know how this might affect things. The installer was run as admin and the start/stop ir icons in the start menu exists.

Any clues?

Nova TD has no remote, that may well be why not recognised and refusing to start.

Your driver should be the same as mine, version 4_3_25080, device manager call it "Hauppauge Nova DT Dual Tuner Device (+IR)"

Sure you did not get the letters reversed

Edit, just found new IR32 64bit released 4 days ago good timing.

Tried uninstalling the drivers while having set vista not to install drivers automatically and then installing the correct ones from the hauppauge 4.6b cd. It's called "the right thing" in device manager now, but the problem is still there. I can't believe this!

I really have to thank you for your time!

EDIT: Tried the new Ir32.exe, but no luck. ir.exe still displays the same error message. Will continue the fight tomorrow since it's getting kind of late here in sweden.

EDIT2: I've tried almost everything in my power to make it work but simply can't see any other reason than that the hauppauge drivers/applications are badly written. In my frustration I ordered a MCE remote this noon since people seem to less problems with these.

Even if the issue remains unsolved, I have to thank you for taking your time.
